Description

What kind of wine it is

The Conero Sassi Neri Riserva from Fattoria Le Terrazze is a still red wine from the Marche region that enhances the characteristics of the Montepulciano grape variety. An expression of the prestigious Conero Riserva area, it stands out for its intense ruby colour enriched with bright garnet highlights. On the nose, it reveals great intensity and persistence, releasing elegant scents of undergrowth, dried flowers and a delicate touch of vanilla. On the palate, it offers a full, rich and smooth sip, supported by an enveloping tannic structure. This solid harmony makes it an ideal companion for pork-based dishes and generous platters of mature cheeses.

Where it comes from

This wine is produced in the Marche region, from estate-owned vineyards located in Numana, a short distance from the Adriatic coast. The proximity to the sea ensures a mild climate that favours a slow and balanced ripening of the grapes. The soils, dating back to the Upper Middle Pliocene, have a composition that varies according to exposure, alternating between calcareous-clay marls and calcareous-sandy soils. This specific geological conformation gives the wine a solid taste structure and precise aromatic definition, faithfully reflecting the authentic territorial identity of the Conero Riserva.

How it is produced

The grapes are selected upon reaching perfect ripeness and sent for fermentation in stainless steel tanks. The maceration, lasting eight or nine days, ensures optimal extraction of colour and structure. After malolactic fermentation, the wine matures in small French oak barrels for a period ranging from eighteen to twenty-four months, acquiring complexity and finesse. The process concludes with bottle ageing for at least six months, an essential step to best integrate the wood notes and ensure excellent ageing potential over time.

History and Curiosities

Founded in 1882, Fattoria Le Terrazze produces this iconic Conero DOCG Riserva, the result of its own vineyards in Numana, just one kilometre from the coast. The Pliocene-origin soils enhance the elegance of the grapes, brought out by the expert guidance of oenologist Federico Curtaz. The commitment to excellence is sealed by an evocative quote from mathematician Gauss on the label, a tribute to the patient maturation process of the wine. Awarded 97 points by Luca Maroni and 5 Grappoli Bibenda, it embodies the true spirit of the Marche region.
