Description
What kind of wine it is
The Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Silineo from Fattoria del Cerro is a deep and structured still red Tuscan wine. In the glass, it displays a bright ruby red colour, revealing a complex bouquet of forest fruits and chinotto, with hints of liquorice, aromatic herbs and mineral notes. On the palate, it unveils a powerful and harmonious texture: the velvety tannins and dense fruit ensure precise balance and a long-lasting persistence. It is ideal for accompanying roasts, braised meats, game and mature cheeses.
Where it comes from
Production originates in Acquaviva di Montepulciano, in the Sienese territory. Fattoria del Cerro, the largest private estate dedicated to this Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, cultivates its vineyards following strict organic management. The winery carefully selects the best plots among the various exposures on the estate to extract the highest quality from the grapes. The meticulous agronomic work results in a balanced blend of Sangiovese, locally known as Prugnolo Gentile, combined with Colorino, Mammolo and Syrah, a clear expression of the local terroir.
How it is produced
After careful manual harvesting, the grapes ferment in steel at a controlled temperature for twenty days, with daily pump-overs and délestage, followed by a short post-fermentation maceration to best extract the phenolic components. Once racking is complete, the wine is transferred to oak barrels where it undergoes malolactic fermentation and a minimum ageing of eighteen months. Part of the batch rests in large Slavonian oak barrels, an essential step that smooths the tannins and perfects the elegant structure of the sip.
History and Curiosities
The Silineo originates from the historic Fattoria del Cerro, founded in 1978 by the Baiocchi brothers. This outstanding estate is the largest private producer of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, boasting a total of 181 hectares, 94 of which are superbly suited to this denomination. The commitment to quality and the enhancement of Tuscan tradition is clearly evident in the 2021 vintage, already praised by renowned wine guides such as that of the Italian Sommelier Foundation.
