Description

What type of wine it is

Toscana Rosato from Fattoria Aldobrandesca is a still rosé wine with a Typical Geographical Indication that highlights the unique characteristics of the Aleatico grape. Cold maceration on the skins provides a bright colour and a vibrant profile. The bouquet reveals delicate floral notes of rose, followed by hints of citrus and small red fruits. The palate offers a savoury and balanced structure, with long persistence, ideal for pairing with fresh cheeses and fish-based dishes.

Where it comes from

The grapes are grown in the surroundings of Sovana, in the Tuscan countryside, in an area with a profound geological footprint. The vineyards are located at approximately two hundred metres above sea level, on slopes and plains. The distinctive element is the soil of volcanic origin, characterised by a subsoil of tuffaceous rock. These soil and climate conditions shape the fruit and infuse the wine with a marked savoury identity.

How it is produced

Production begins with a hand harvest aimed at protecting the aromatic integrity of the Aleatico. After destemming and soft pressing, the must undergoes a short cold maceration, essential for extracting colour and aromas. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature. Ageing on its own lees until bottling enhances its pleasantness and gustatory continuity.

History and interesting facts

Produced in the stunning volcanic landscape of Sovana, Fattoria Aldobrandesca’s A Toscana Rosato expresses the authentic elegance of pure Aleatico. The vineyards grow on a unique tuffaceous soil, which lends the wine an unmistakable character.

The estate’s 100 hectares (247 acres) of vineyards are on the slopes of a spur of tuffaceous rock where the hilltop town of Sovana is located, surrounded by a beautiful natural landscape of remarkable archeological importance.

Flat terrain of volcanic origin with tuffaceous subsoils are at an altitude of 200 meters above sea level (656 feet). Aleatico, a very old and traditional grape variety, and Malbèc, a new variety for the Italian wine producing sector, have found an ideal terroir.
