Description
What kind of wine it is
The Phileo Pinot Bianco from Falkenstein is a still white wine that precisely expresses the character of pure Pinot Bianco. On the nose, it opens with a defined aromatic profile, characterised by delicate hints of apple, lively citrus and a subtle touch of vanilla. On the palate, it reveals a full structure and a creamy, persistent finish, perfectly balanced by pronounced acidity and deep flavour tension. Thanks to its complex structure, it stands out for its remarkable potential to evolve over time, ensuring a rewarding and long-lasting tasting experience.
Where it comes from
The roots of this wine lie in the heart of Val Venosta, a region with a strong winemaking tradition in South Tyrol, where the vineyards thrive on gneiss, granite and slate soils. This particular geological composition imparts a distinctive minerality to the glass. The name chosen for this label is a heartfelt tribute to Filomena, a central figure who shaped the history of Falkenstein and continues to inspire future generations. The Alpine identity of the winery is reflected in a sip of great clarity.
How it is produced
The creation of this wine begins with careful manual work in the vineyard, limiting the use of mechanical means only to targeted interventions. After meticulous harvesting, the must ferments in barrels, beginning a complex maturation process within an evocative cellar carved into the rock. Aged in French barrels for twelve months, it is then transferred to steel tanks for a further five months. Finally, the structure is harmonised with a long rest in the bottle lasting thirty-one months, resulting in a white wine with a distinctly savoury character.
History and Curiosities
Phileo Pinot Bianco was created as a heartfelt tribute to Filomena, a key figure in the history of the Falkenstein estate. Its lengthy and skilful maturation involves fermentation and ageing in French barriques, followed by an impressive 31 months of bottle ageing in an evocative cellar carved into the rock. This meticulous process produces a vibrant wine, awarded 94 points by James Suckling, which releases elegant notes of apple and vanilla, culminating in a creamy finish with pronounced minerality.

A dream that does not come by chance: it is in fact here that in the past Schiava grapes were pressed for the family Inn. There are mentions of the Falkenstein wine region and the vineyard dating back to the 12th century, and the Pratzner family can celebrate more than two hundred years of existence.
A traditional outlook and attention to detail. These are words full of meaning for the Pratzner family. The constant daily activities are based on manual work, with the machines only there to provide support. Since 2003, all the wines are vinified in the new cellar. White wines age in large acacia wood casks in the cellar carved into the rock.
Wine is the reflection of the winemaker, and of the passion and philosophy with which the vine is treated. At the Falkenstein winery, we want to continue to produce naturally and to respect the environment. We remain faithful to our intergenerational motto: live in close contact with nature and appreciate it, but never underestimate it. Read more
