Description
Type of wine
The Bolgheri Rosso Pievi by Fabio Motta is a still red wine that expresses the essence of Bolgheri, created from a careful blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese, and Syrah. Distinguished by a bright ruby red colour, it offers a fragrant bouquet with notes of rose, hibiscus, and violet, accompanied by cherry, redcurrant, orange zest, and Mediterranean herbs. On the palate, it is savoury and fruity, with a slender and soft body supported by a pleasant freshness. The fine tannic texture leads towards a persistent and well-structured finish.
Origin
The grapes come from the Le Pievi vineyard in Castagneto Carducci, in the heart of Bolgheri. The vines, approximately twenty years old and trained using the Guyot system at fifty metres above sea level, benefit from a south-west exposure ideal for slow and constant ripening of the bunches. The sandy-clay soil of sedimentary origin nourishes the plants, giving the wine a distinct territorial imprint. The coastal microclimate shapes an oenological expression with a precise and deeply Mediterranean style, characterised by a marked structural finesse.
Production process
Once perfect ripeness is reached, the grapes ferment separately in concrete tanks for two weeks with the help of indigenous yeasts. Periodic manual punching down of the cap ensures a calibrated maceration. After spontaneous malolactic fermentation takes place, the blend is composed within the year. Resting in unglazed concrete tanks for twelve months preserves the aromatic identity of the grapes intact. Following filtration, a final ageing period of six months completes the production cycle before it is released for sale.
History and interesting facts
The Bolgheri Rosso Pievi embodies Fabio Motta's artisanal vision, which began in 2009 in Castagneto Carducci. Originating from the Le Pievi vineyard, this wine expresses the essence of the Tuscan terroir thanks to meticulous manual care. The production process respects the nature of the grapes through the exclusive use of indigenous yeasts and the spontaneous occurrence of malolactic fermentation. Twelve months of ageing in non-vitrified concrete tanks preserves the aromatic integrity, giving the 2024 vintage an extraordinary balance and a sip of pure elegance.

The vines stretch over about 4 hectares of land with excellent soil. Shortly after beginning I purchased another two-hectare vineyard that produces top-quality white grapes, (mostly Vermentino) in the "Le Fornacelle" area. Read more
