Description
What kind of wine is it
Ettore Germano Langhe Riesling Herzu is a lively, semi-aromatic still white wine. In the glass, it displays a straw yellow colour with subtle greenish highlights. The bouquet opens with fruity and slightly tropical notes, then evolves towards elegant herbaceous and mineral nuances. On the palate, it is full and enveloping, led by a pleasant savouriness balanced by the sweetness of the fruit. The fresh and persistent finish makes it ideal to pair with seafood dishes, shellfish and soups.
Where does it come from
The Riesling originates in Alta Langa, on the hills of Cigliè. The rows of vines, facing south-east, benefit from an altitude between 500 and 550 metres above sea level. This cool climate is essential for the development of particularly complex aromas. The calcareous soil, characterised by a solid rocky subsoil known as Langa stone, gives the grapes a pronounced mineral character that translates into deep energy and savoury flavour on the palate.
How is it produced
After harvesting, the must ferments in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature for about forty days. The process is naturally halted by lowering the temperature, thus preserving a slight residual sugar that enhances the complex aromatic component. Refrigeration inhibits malolactic fermentation, maintaining the original freshness of the grape variety. The process concludes with ageing on the lees for six months, strictly without bâtonnage.
History and Curiosities
Produced by the historic company Ettore Germano, founded in 1856, the Langhe DOC Riesling Hérzu originates in the Alta Langa at over 500 metres above sea level, where the cool climate encourages the development of complex aromas. Thanks to the expert guidance of oenologist Sergio Germano, this elegant white wine matures for six months on the lees, enhancing the profound minerality of the calcareous soil. The prestigious magnum format of 1.5 litres preserves a vintage of excellence, awarded 91 points by Robert Parker: the ideal choice for those seeking a savoury, fresh sip with remarkable persistence.

| Wine making | Fermentation takes place in stainless steel at 16°C for 40 days and is then chilled to prevent malolactic fermentation. The residual sugars are 5-6 grams per litre, as fermenting at a low temperature causes the yeasts to stop at this point; the slight residue helps the aromatic expression of the Riesling. It then remains on the lees for 6 months, without bâtonnage, and is bottled in May. |
