Description

What kind of wine it is

Barolo Cerretta by Ettore Germano is a still red wine from Piedmont, made from Nebbiolo grapes, a true expression of the Barolo region. In the glass, it displays an intense garnet red colour with slight orange reflections. The aromas of ripe fruit and vanilla gradually blend with hints of leather and tobacco. The palate entry is enveloping, supported by a solid tannic structure smoothed by ageing. The finish is long, clean and persistent, making it ideal to pair with mature cheeses and game.

Where it comes from

The grapes come from the Cerretta vineyard in Serralunga d’Alba, an area historically linked to Barolo production. The rows, situated at an altitude of 350-370 metres with south and south-east exposure, allow the Nebbiolo to fully ripen. The soil, very calcareous, gives the wine a dry taste profile and a rigorous definition. The care of this precious Piedmontese territory is entrusted to Sergio Germano, a careful interpreter of the Ettore Germano brand.

How it is produced

Harvesting takes place in the second half of October, followed by destemming and crushing. This is followed by a skin fermentation lasting 25-30 days, with daily pump-overs to best extract colour and tannins. After racking, the wine matures in small French oak barrels, using a minimal amount of new wood alongside previously used barrels. The ageing, lasting at least 24 months, is crucial to harmonise the structure and deliver an intense and elegant finish.

History and Curiosities

The result of the passion of four generations, Barolo Cerretta by Ettore Germano has embodied Piedmontese excellence since 1856. Born from Nebbiolo grapes grown on prized very calcareous soils, this award-winning red matures for 24 months in small French oak barrels. The meticulous care of oenologist Sergio Germano delivers an enveloping sip with noble tannins, where intense aromas of ripe fruit gradually blend with refined leather nuances, ensuring an intense and persistent finish that is sure to move you.
