Description

What kind of wine it is

The Gewürztraminer Erste e Neue stands out as an aromatic still white wine with a fresh and mineral profile, a true expression of the Alto Adige region. On the nose, it offers an intense bouquet, marked by clear notes of peach, elderflower, lemongrass and yellow rose. On the palate, it reveals a full-bodied and savoury character, balanced by a gentle acidity and a delicate fruity sweetness. This vibrant aromaticity leads to a long and persistent finish. It is ideal as an aperitif, or pairs beautifully with shellfish, sushi and boldly spiced dishes, supporting the flavours in a balanced way.

Where it comes from

The grapes come from the Caldaro area, within the renowned winegrowing region of Alto Adige. The vineyards are rooted in clay and sandy soil, an ideal composition to give structure and savouriness to the glass. The area benefits from a temperate Alpine climate, essential for ensuring regular ripening of the grapes and preserving the aromatic precision of the variety. The production follows the standards of sustainable Fair’n Green practices, confirming Erste e Neue’s commitment to enhancing local viticulture while rigorously protecting the surrounding ecosystem.

How it is produced

The vineyards are cultivated using pergola and Guyot training systems, maintaining balanced yields to favour grape quality. In the winery, the process begins with a brief maceration and gentle pressing, stages handled delicately to preserve the varietal aromas. This is followed by temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks, carried out in the absence of oxygen to maintain perfect aromatic clarity. The process concludes with four months of maturation in steel on the fine lees, a resting period that gives the wine greater volume, cohesion and a pronounced persistence.

History and Curiosities

This 2025 Gewürztraminer from Erste+Neue celebrates the tradition of a historic winery in the Alto Adige DOC. The commitment to the environment is demonstrated by the sustainable production Fair’n Green certification, which guarantees a virtuous and responsible approach. In the winery, the grapes are handled with the utmost care, through gentle pressing and fermentation in steel tanks, strictly protected from oxygen. The four-month maturation on fine lees enhances the wine’s vibrant aromatic character, preserving the original elegance of the grape variety intact.

Wines and mountains have a lot in common. They provide us with intense moments, they challenge and fulfil us. Making a good wine is like climbing a summit. It requires hard work, determination, expertise and routine.

ERSTE+NEUE has been exploring new avenues for more than a century, combining Alto Adige wine culture and tradition with innovation. Throughout this journey, we have dared quite a few first ascents and in doing so have written Alto Adige wine history.

Created in 1986 as a result of the merger of Erste Kellerei (1900) and Neue Kellerei (1925) followed in 2016 by the future-oriented alliance with Cantina Kaltern. Today ERSTE+NEUE stands for top alpine wines, pressed in harmony with nature using not only the latest technology but also drawing on the experience and love of experimentation demonstated by previous generations. inery that was rich in both tradition and renown. The clue is in the name: the tried and tested is upheld, while there is an openness to innovation. Each individual bottle is proof of this philosophy.

ERSTE+NEUE has held the FAIR’N GREEN international seal for sustainable viticulture since 2018. This certification supports us not only in making sustainability goals objectively measurable but also in achieving them. The goals of FAIR’N GREEN are also close to our hearts: environmental protection, natural viticulture, promotion of biodiversity and the protection of natural resources. In addition, fair pay, social commitment and social responsibility are required. At the end of the day, the preservation and promotion of the cultural landscape are also important to us. In this way, those who love our alpine wines can enjoy excellent products that have been produced under responsible conditions for both people and nature.
