Description
What kind of wine is it
Erste Neue Alto Adige Lagrein is a still red wine produced by the Erste Neue winery. Made from Lagrein grapes, it displays a bright garnet colour and a broad fruity bouquet, characterised by notes of ripe cherry, blackberry, floral nuances and dark chocolate. On the palate, it is enveloping, supported by a defined and balanced tannic structure. The harmony between the fruity and spicy notes offers a satisfying sip, with a long and persistent finish that pairs perfectly with grilled red meats, game and mature cheeses.
Where does it come from
The grapes are grown in Alto Adige, specifically in the Caldaro area along the Wine Road. The vines thrive in a temperate alpine climate that encourages the development of clear aromas and a pleasant freshness. The sandy alluvial soils, combined with gravel and clay, provide an ideal composition to give the wine structure and smoothness. The Erste Neue winery cultivates its vineyards following the principles of sustainable viticulture, adopting an agricultural approach that respects environmental balance, as evidenced by the certifications obtained.
How is it produced
In the vineyard, training follows the pergola and Guyot systems, with controlled yields to ensure the aromatic intensity of the grapes. Vinification begins with fermentation in steel, an essential step to preserve the freshness and primary character of the Lagrein. Subsequently, the wine matures through ageing in large oak barrels. This practice enriches the organoleptic profile with a subtle spicy touch, able to support the complexity of the sip without ever overpowering the authentic identity of the grape.
History and Curiosities
Founded in 1900 in Caldaro, the historic Erste + Neue winery produces this Lagrein Alto Adige DOC, skilfully combining local tradition and innovation. The grapes ripen on alluvial soils in a temperate Alpine climate, cultivated according to strict sustainable practices guaranteed by the FAIR’N GREEN certification. After meticulous fermentation in steel, maturation in large oak barrels defines the character of the 2024 vintage, revealing an enveloping and complex profile that pays homage to the authenticity of the South Tyrolean region.
