Description

What kind of wine it is

Champagne Les Crayères Vieilles Vignes by Egly-Ouriet is a prestigious Blanc de Noirs made exclusively from Pinot Noir grapes. Crafted using the Traditional Method, this wine displays a rigorous profile with great character. Fermentation and ageing in barrels impart extraordinary mineral complexity, offering a deep and persistent sip that retains exceptional natural freshness.

Where it comes from

This wine originates from Ambonnay, one of the most renowned villages in Champagne, classified as Grand Cru. The vines sink their roots into chalky soils that capture sunlight and release warmth during the night, giving the wine a pronounced mineral character. The vineyard consists of old Pinot Noir vines that yield grapes of extraordinary concentration. These elements help define a rigorous flavour profile, resulting in a glass with a golden yellow colour and remarkable precision.

How it is produced

Fermentation, initiated by indigenous yeasts, takes place entirely in barrels. This is followed by secondary fermentation in the bottle according to the Traditional Method, with a long maturation on the lees for seventy-two months, ensuring an extremely fine and persistent mousse. The Extra Brut dosage enhances the purity of the aromatic profile, with prominent notes of figs and earthy hints. On the palate, vibrant acidity balances honeyed nuances, leading to an elegant and profound finish characterised by a note of bitter cocoa.

History and Curiosities

This Blanc de Noirs Grand Cru originates in Ambonnay, where Pinot Noir vines sink their roots into the chalky soil of the Les Crayères vineyard. Aged for 72 months in oak, this Champagne offers exquisitely fine bubbles and a mineral bouquet with hints of figs. On the palate, it displays excellent acidity and seductive honeyed nuances, which evolve into a persistent finish with notes of bitter cocoa. An exclusive multi-award-winning cuvée, ideal for enhancing refined seafood and shellfish fritters thanks to its rigorous extra brut profile.

A Champagne that represents its terroir: the vine and soil are found throughout this wine, thanks to old vines, a few winemaker's secrets and modern technology. Egly-Ouriet produces champagne only with grapes from its 11.5 hectares company's vineyards, the most important of which are in Ambonnay, the home of Pinot Noir, the others in Bouzy, Verzenay and Vrigny. Quality begins on this particular soil, made up of layers of chalk that reflect the sun's rays and release heat to the vines at night, allowing excess water to be absorbed and giving the grapes a particularly mineral taste.
