Description
What kind of wine it is
Valentini's Trebbiano d’Abruzzo is a still white wine made from Bombino Bianco grapes. In the glass, it displays a bright straw yellow colour with greenish highlights. On the nose, it reveals a deep aromatic bouquet, where delicate floral and citrus notes blend with hints of chamomile, hazelnut and subtle mineral nuances. On the palate, it offers an elegant and graceful sip, supported by a precise savoury tension that ensures extraordinary persistence. This well-defined profile pairs beautifully with dishes based on lean fish, millefeuille of cod and mature cheeses.
Where it comes from
This wine originates from the Abruzzo hills, in an area that encompasses the provinces of Pescara, Teramo, Chieti and L’Aquila, with particular reference to the Loreto Aprutino area. The vineyards are cultivated on fertile, well-drained soils, situated at an altitude not exceeding five hundred metres. The area enjoys a temperate and stable climate, characterised by limited temperature fluctuations and consistent temperatures. The perfect synergy between soil and microclimate promotes optimal grape ripening, giving this white wine a solid structure and excellent ageing potential, capable of preserving its distinctive characteristics for decades.
How it is produced
The production philosophy, based on an artisanal approach, begins with a rigorous manual harvest, selecting only the best bunches. After pressing, the must initially ferments in steel containers to preserve maximum expressive purity. Subsequently, the wine continues its maturation in large oak barrels, avoiding the use of small wooden containers. In these barrels, malolactic fermentation takes place, a fundamental step that softens its flavour profile and defines the persistent and satisfying finish that distinguishes it.
History and Curiosities
Produced since 1956, the renowned Trebbiano d’Abruzzo DOC from the Valentini family originates from a historic winery that has been active since as far back as 1650. Every stage of production faithfully follows traditional Abruzzese techniques, favouring a purely artisanal approach with ageing in large 55-hectolitre oak barrels. Now led by Gabriele Valentini, this limited production continues to captivate international palates, boasting prestigious accolades such as the exceptional 97 points from James Suckling and the three gold stars from Veronelli.
