Description
What kind of wine it is
Sentiero del Vento by Duca di Salaparuta is a still white wine with the controlled designation of origin Sicilia. Produced from Vermentino grapes vinified in steel, it stands out for its dry, fresh and fruity profile, enhanced by a pronounced mineral character. The bouquet releases fragrant notes of citrus and chamomile, combined with floral hints, marine nuances and typical aromas of the Mediterranean scrub. On the palate, it is broad, velvety and medium to full-bodied, supported by a pleasant savouriness that leads to a long and persistent finish.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from the Tenuta di Suor Marchesa in Butera, from vineyards situated at around three hundred metres above sea level and constantly caressed by the wind. The vines sink their roots into complex soils, characterised by a calcareous and siliceous matrix mixed with sub-alkaline clays, fundamental elements that give the wine its vibrant gustatory tension. The climate alternates between harsh winters and hot, windy summers, ideal conditions for the grapes to reach perfect ripeness and concentrate varietal aromas.
How it is produced
Production begins with a rigorous manual harvest at full ripeness. After destemming and gentle pressing, the free-run must undergoes a slow fermentation in temperature-controlled steel tanks. This is followed by a period of ageing on fine lees for several months, an essential phase to give greater structure and smoothness to the palate, while preserving the freshness of the fruit. The process concludes with a brief rest in the bottle in temperature-controlled environments.
History and Curiosities
Born on the Suor Marchesa Estate in Butera, this Vermentino represents an original Sicilian interpretation signed by Duca di Salaparuta. The result of an ambitious project launched in the 2000s on the advice of Giacomo Tachis, the wine takes its name from its exclusive white limestone vineyard, perpetually swept by breezes. This ideal exposure gives the glass a marked minerality and deep aromas of Mediterranean scrub, offering a fresh and velvety sip, with an extraordinarily persistent finish that stands out over time.
