Description

What kind of wine is it

Dr. L.O. Riesling Sparkling Zero Alcohol is a non-alcoholic sparkling wine produced by Dr. Loosen, made from Rhine Riesling grapes. In the glass, it displays a straw yellow colour with greenish highlights and a fine perlage. The aromatic profile is fruity, characterised by notes of pineapple, mango and fresh hints of lime. On the palate, it is delicate, with the sweetness of the fruit well balanced by the lively acidic tension typical of the grape variety, finishing with a clean and refreshing aftertaste. It is a versatile label, ideal for food pairing with fish dishes, fresh cheeses or white meats.

Where does it come from

The grapes grow in the Moselle Valley, a German region historically renowned for Rhine Riesling. The vineyards are situated on rocky slate soils with frequent outcrops, a composition that gives the wine a defined organoleptic profile and marked verticality. Dr. Loosen's presence in this area dates back over two centuries, demonstrating a deep knowledge of the terroir. These environmental conditions favour balanced ripening, allowing for a base that retains its freshness of flavour even after processing.

How is it produced

The process begins with the manual harvesting of the bunches, followed by vinification in stainless steel. To preserve the original aromas and the natural sweetness of the fruit, fermentation is halted by lowering the temperature. The sparkling process follows the steps of the Traditional Method, giving the bubbles structure and finesse. The subsequent removal of alcohol is carried out through gentle vacuum distillation, an ideal technique for maintaining the aromatic properties of the raw material without altering its balance. The final sip expresses all the varietal typicity, offering a pleasant and complete tasting experience.

History and Curiosities

In the heart of the Moselle Valley, the historic Loosen estate has been cultivating the prized Rhenish Riesling for over two centuries. Led since 1988 by Ernst Loosen, the winery combines a glorious heritage with refined innovation, offering an elegant alcohol-free sparkling wine of extraordinary charm. Produced from hand-picked grapes and vinified in steel, the process uses cold to halt fermentation and preserve the fruit's natural sweetness. The alcohol is then gently removed through vacuum distillation, ensuring a fine perlage and a refreshing finish.

The Loosen family has been cultivating Riesling and producing wine in the Mosel Valley for over 200 years. The current owner, Ernst 'Erni' Loosen, took over the estate in 1988 and committed himself to significantly improving the quality and international reputation of the estate, the Mosel region and Riesling in general. Today, Erni is one of the world's most iconic and influential winegrowers.

A full range of Riesling styles is produced, following the traditions of both family lines: the dry wines inspired by his father's family, the Loosen, and the Prädikat wines inspired by his mother's family, the Prüm.
