Description
What type of wine it is
The Alsace Gewurztraminer Cuvee Rene Dopff by Dopff & Irion is an off-dry white wine that fully expresses the character of Gewurztraminer in Alsace. The intense aromatic profile reveals scents of rose, lychee, spices, and delicate notes of honey. On the palate, it shows a medium-full body, where a soft sweetness blends with well-balanced acidity. The sip is rich and juicy, enhanced by ageing on the fine lees in steel, concluding with a fresh and persistent finish with a pleasant mentholated nuance.
Where it comes from
This white originates in Riquewihr thanks to the care of Dopff & Irion. The terraced and optimally exposed vineyards are managed through responsible agriculture, aimed at yield control. The vines grow on a complex clay-limestone mosaic composed of primary and quaternary formations. This geological matrix enhances the clear expression of the terroir, bestowing finesse upon the structure and supporting the wine's complex floral breadth, for a sip that is always vibrant.
How it is produced
Production begins with hand-harvesting, followed by gentle pneumatic pressing to preserve the olfactory potential of the clusters. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, keeping the aromas intact. The wine undergoes ageing on the fine lees for approximately six months, completing its evolution in vats. The total absence of barrel ageing enhances the natural qualities of the fruit, providing a clear and varietal tasting experience.

At the end of the war, two of the biggest names in viticulture in Riquewihr, René Dopff and the widow Irion, joined forces to found Dopff & Irion.
