Description
What kind of wine is it
Gewürztraminer Cuvée René Dopff is an aromatic still white wine representing Alsace. With its bright straw yellow colour and light green highlights, it reveals an intense and concentrated aromatic profile. The bouquet is led by scents of spices and rose, intertwined with raisins and exotic fruit. On the palate, it shows a medium-full body, combining a rich and juicy structure with well-balanced acidity. The powerful sip finishes with a fresh, persistent finale and a typical menthol note.
Where does it come from
It originates in France, in the Riquewihr area, and is crafted by the Dopff & Irion winery. The vineyards are managed using responsible farming practices, with minimal intervention and careful yield control. The vines grow on a complex mosaic of soils ranging from primary to quaternary formations, with a pronounced clay-limestone matrix. This specific geology enhances the clear expression of the terroir in the Gewürztraminer, supporting its floral breadth and giving great finesse to the structure on the palate.
How is it produced
Production begins with the manual harvesting of the Gewürztraminer, followed by gentle pneumatic pressing at low pressure to preserve its aromatic potential. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures. Afterwards, the wine undergoes ageing on fine lees for six months, completing its evolution with further rest in vats. The targeted steel processing respects the natural qualities of the grape variety, resulting in a vibrant, clear wine with a long progression.

At the end of the war, two of the biggest names in viticulture in Riquewihr, René Dopff and the widow Irion, joined forces to found Dopff & Irion. René Dopff was an emblematic and prestigious wine producer who, for several decades, had a huge influence on the vineyards of Alsace by putting the emphasis on quality (by reducing yields, for example) and modernising the labels.
