Description
What kind of wine it is
Sherazade is a still red wine with controlled designation of origin by Donnafugata, a pure expression of Nero d’Avola from the lands of Sicily, vinified in steel. It stands out for its medium body and a balance played on softness and freshness. On the nose, it reveals hints of raspberry, cherry and plum, enriched by notes of black pepper and light balsamic nuances. The palate is agile and dynamic, characterised by clear fruit and a caressing tannin perfectly integrated. The finish is clean and fragrant, offering a harmonious profile and an extremely satisfying drink.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from the Contessa Entellina Estate, in the heart of south-western Sicily. The vineyards stretch over loam-clay hillsides situated between 200 and 600 metres above sea level, rich in limestone and mineral components. The Mediterranean climate is characterised by rainy winters and dry, breezy summers. The marked temperature variations between day and night are fundamental for the ripening of Nero d’Avola, as they preserve its natural freshness. This unique environment ensures a precise varietal definition, giving the wine a balanced structure and gentle tannins.
How it is produced
The harvest takes place between the end of August and the beginning of September. Fermentation in stainless steel occurs at controlled temperatures, with a maceration on the skins of about a week aimed at delicately extracting colour and aromatic components. After malolactic fermentation, the wine matures for four months in tank, followed by a further period of ageing. The choice to avoid wood ageing is deliberate to preserve the purity of the original Nero d’Avola fruit. This production process allows for a soft and vibrant texture, maintaining the aromatic integrity and freshness of the grape variety.
