Description
What kind of wine it is
The BRDA Cru Selection Pinot Grigio Ramato by Marjan Simcic is an orange wine that authentically reflects the character of Brda. Made from Pinot Grigio grapes, it acquires its typical hue and enveloping structure thanks to expert maceration. The artisanal approach and absence of filtration ensure a pure and expressive sip, a true mirror of its place of origin. At the table, it proves to be the ideal companion for seafood dishes, shellfish, sushi, and the spicy recipes of Asian cuisine.
Where it comes from
This wine is produced in Slovenia, in the historic Brda region, also known as the Slovenian Collio. The vines take root in soils composed of marl, clay, and limestone, a geological matrix that imparts depth, minerality, and vigour to the structure. The vineyards, situated at around two hundred and fifty metres above sea level with excellent south-west exposure, allow for slow and perfect ripening of the grapes. The management of this Cru follows strict organic and sustainable practices, fully respecting the balance of the local ecosystem.
How it is produced
Production begins at the end of August with manual harvesting. The must undergoes spontaneous fermentation by indigenous yeasts, followed by skin maceration for eight days in truncated conical vats, a crucial phase for extracting colour and defining the aromatic profile. After gentle pressing, the wine matures for twelve months in oak barrels, then completes its journey with a final ageing of at least six months. This non-invasive process preserves the integrity of the fruit, resulting in a glass with a pronounced personality.
History and Curiosities
This fascinating Pinot Grigio Ramato from Marjan Simčič is a tribute to the Slovenian Collio and originates from the renowned vineyards of Ronc di Zegla, in Brda. The result of a family tradition dating back to 1860, this wine stands out for its spontaneous fermentation and an eight-day maceration on the skins in oak vats. Twelve months of ageing in barrel yield an unfiltered, pure and elegant sip, awarded 92 points by James Suckling: an authentic and memorable expression of this extraordinary region.
