Description
What kind of wine it is
The Gewurztraminer Vendanges Tardives by Jean-Michel Welty is an organic white wine with an intensely aromatic profile. On the nose, it is opulent, with enveloping honey notes and candied fruit. The palate is expressive and rounded, with a fresh attack that balances the full body and buttery nuances. The concentrated sweetness leads to a soft and persistent finish. Served between 10 and 12°C, it enhances the tasting of flavourful cheeses and desserts.
Where it comes from
This Gewurztraminer originates from the Bollenberg area, within the historic Alsace region. The vineyards thrive on clay-limestone soils, essential for giving the wine structure and flavour definition. The Welty family has worked these lands since 1738, combining the experience of eight generations with meticulous organic viticulture led by Jean-Michel and his son Jérémy. This synergy between agronomic care and agricultural vocation produces a wine capable of evolving gracefully, ensuring a longevity of 5-10 years.
How it is produced
Production uses the late harvest technique, delaying the picking of the Gewurztraminer until it is very ripe. This practice naturally concentrates the sugars and amplifies the fruit's aromatic richness. Vinification follows strict organic principles to enhance the pure varietal expression. The careful processing defines a perfect flavour balance, maintaining a vital freshness essential to balance the great softness and persistent sweet notes.
History and Curiosities
In Bollenberg, the Welty family has been passing down the art of winemaking for eight generations, since 1738. Organic and sustainable farming, introduced by Jean-Michel and his son Jérémy, enhances the clay-limestone soils. In this Alsatian setting, a masterpiece of the Alsace AOC denomination is born: the Gewurztraminer Late Harvest 2020. Eight generations later, we are continuing this wonderful family story, which links us so closely to the land, the vines and the wine, with the same faith and the same enthusiasm.
Every day, our work is guided by the conviction that nature will give us back what we have given her.
It's been over thirty-five years since Jean-Michel took up the torch left by his father Fernand, gradually doubling the surface area of the vineyard.
In September 2012, he was joined by his son Jérémy, who brought a breath of fresh air to the estate with new creations and a new method of cultivation: Organic Farming. Read more
