Description
What kind of wine it is
Pommard 1er Cru Les Arvelets by A.F. Gros is a red wine that embodies the essence of Burgundy. Made from Pinot Noir grapes, it appears in the glass with a deep garnet red colour. On the nose, it offers an intense bouquet, with notes of blackcurrant, blackberry and hints of moss. On the palate, it reveals depth and tension, supported by persistent tannins and a vibrant freshness, ideal conditions for a long evolution over time.
Where it comes from
This prestigious red originates in the heart of Pommard. The vines grow on a steep south-facing slope, along the stream that runs through the village. This geographical position creates an ideal microclimate for the vines, which sink their roots into a stony red soil. The soil ensures optimal drainage and the retention of daytime warmth, giving the wine a stable tannic profile and a pleasant freshness on the palate.
How it is produced
The processing of the grapes aims to protect the aromatic richness and natural structure of the fruit. During maturation, the different components integrate: over time, the more austere traits soften, allowing the wine to develop increasing smoothness and great longevity. Decanting for about an hour and serving at a temperature between 16 and 18 degrees is recommended. It is ideal paired with game, pork dishes and mature cheeses.
History and Curiosities
The Pommard 1er Cru Les Arvelets bears the hallmark of Anne Gros, who has led Domaine A.F. Gros with profound sensitivity since 1988. The 2022 vintage, vinified from pure Pinot Noir grapes, originates from a steep, south-facing slope in Burgundy, situated next to the stream that runs through the village. The vines sink their roots into a distinctive red soil rich in small stones, imparting genuine artisanal elegance to the glass. At 25 years old, Anne saw the family domaine grow from 3 to 6.5 ha. Recently, she invested in a new cellar. She is a winegrower suspicious of certitude and fastidious about maintaining her freedom.
As a female winegrower, Anne knew how to prove herself and convince all who doubted her ability to manage a domaine. She showed that she had not only the shoulders but the head to make her family heritage one of the greatest domaines of Burgundy.
In 1984 she had to stop studying Arts to study vines’culture and oenology in Beaune and Dijon. Now her passion for vine and wine as well as her talent, sensitivity and professionalism position her as a winemaker amateurs can rely on.
A mother of 3 children, Anne spends all her time working at the Domaine and taking care of her family. Read more
