Description

What kind of wine it is

Moscadeddu is a sweet and aromatic white dessert wine created from a blend of Moscato Bianco and Moscato Reale. This nectar from Romangia reveals a complex bouquet, characterised by notes of candied fruit, orange and rosemary. On the palate, the sip offers a balanced interplay between sweetness and savoury elements, supported by persistent freshness. Elegant balsamic notes and hints of Mediterranean scrub enrich the tasting experience, making it ideal to pair with blue cheeses or mature cheeses.

Where it comes from

This wine originates from the Badde Nigolosu cru, located in Sennori, in the heart of Romangia in Sardinia. The specific terroir of this area imparts a pronounced saline character that blends with the natural sugar concentration of the grapes. Dettori interprets the land by following strict biodynamic principles to preserve the balance of the soil. The Mediterranean climate shapes an intense aromatic profile, ensuring this dessert wine has remarkable ageing potential, allowing it to refine its characteristics over time for up to twenty-five years.

How it is produced

The winemaking process follows a natural approach, focused on respecting the varietal expression. Fermentation begins spontaneously thanks to the action of indigenous yeasts, with no use of chemical additives. Maturation takes place entirely in cement vats and subsequently in glass, with no ageing in barrels to preserve the fragrance of the fruity aromas. The absence of filtration and clarification keeps the original structure intact, resulting in a product suitable for vegan choices that may present a natural sediment at the bottom.

History and Curiosities

Born in Sennori, in the Badde Nigolosu cru, this wine expresses the soul of a family devoted to agriculture since 1900. Guided by the principles of biodynamics, the Dettori winery adopts a natural vinification in cement using only indigenous yeasts. The absence of filtration, clarification and the use of wood results in a pure nectar, capable of evolving and captivating for 20-25 years. Its living essence makes each bottle a unique experience, sometimes accompanied by slight sediments that celebrate a territorial authenticity proudly guaranteed by the producer.

The Dettori company is a family of sheepherders and farmers who has been making authentic, distinctive, terroir-expressive wine since the early 1900s. The wines were always sold in demijohns until 1981 when the company began bottling a portion of the production.

Tenute Dettori is located in the extreme north-west corner of Sardinia, in the Romangia del Logudoro area, the "golden place" between Sassari and Castelsardo, where the company looks after the "Badde Nigolosu" cru.

This historic hinterland is the classic home of the Cannonau grape, which flourishes on the high hillslopes that form a natural theatre facing the Gulf of Asinara at only 4 kilometres from the sea. Here, at Badde Nigolosu, Tenute Dettori cultivates solely ancient clones native to Sardinia, tending them in accord with the tenets of biodynamic agriculture. We utilise only concrete vats for natural fermentations and maturation since the company does not need oak barrels for softening tannins. Meticulous work in the vineyards means that the grapes arrive in the cellar already exhibiting all the qualities required for making a great wine.

We have always worked in the service of our terroir, without compromise. But we have never been alone. Many wine lovers and professionals have trusted us. They tasted, selected, told and sold our wines. Over the years, Badde Nigolosu’s wines have met the most authoritative professionals in the world of wine. Without them today we would not be here yet.
