Description

What kind of wine it is

Haute Pierre by Delas Frères is a still red wine with the Châteauneuf-du-Pape designation that embodies the authentic character of the Rhône Valley. This blend of Grenache and Syrah, vinified in concrete and aged in oak barrels, reveals itself in the glass with a deep garnet red colour, heralding an aromatic profile defined by intense spicy notes. On the palate, it expresses a rich and powerful body, supported by a fine and well-structured tannic framework. The tasting experience concludes with a long persistence, giving way to an enveloping liquorice finish that defines its personality.

Where it comes from

Châteauneuf-du-Pape originates from a territory with a unique geological profile, located in the renowned Rhône Valley. The vines sink their roots into very stony soils, composed mainly of large quartz stones mixed with red sandy clay of alluvial origin. The dry Mediterranean climate, swept by the Mistral wind and characterised by abundant sunshine, shapes the growth of the grapes. The rounded pebbles in the soil absorb heat during the day and gradually release it during the cool nights, ensuring optimal ripening that gives the wine a vigorous and concentrated expression.

How it is produced

Vinification begins with destemming and crushing of the grapes, followed by fermentation in concrete vats lasting about ten days. A subsequent maceration phase is essential for optimal extraction of colour and structural elements. After racking and malolactic fermentation, the wine is naturally stabilised and transferred for maturation. Aging in oak barrels, which lasts between eight and fourteen months, perfectly integrates the spicy sensations. This technical process refines the silky tannic texture, ensuring harmonious balance.

History and Curiosities

Haute Pierre celebrates the prestige of Delas Frères, a historic Rhône winery founded in 1835. Here, the vines grow bathed in sunlight and caressed by the Mistral, sinking their roots into soils composed of large quartz stones, red clay and sand. This exceptional terroir gives the wine a vigorous and memorable character. The 2022 vintage of this renowned Châteauneuf-du-Pape, awarded 93 points by James Suckling, proves to be a precious label for collectors, embodying the most authentic and powerful wine expression of the Rhône.
