Description
What kind of wine it is
Damijan Podversic's Ribolla Gialla is a renowned Orange Wine, made exclusively from Ribolla Gialla grapes grown in Friuli-Venezia Giulia. This wine, with its distinctive stylistic mark, displays a bright amber yellow colour that hints at a structured and substantial profile. On the nose, it develops an ethereal and intense bouquet, characterised by clear notes of aromatic herbs and delicate hints of dried fruit. On the palate, it is deep and substantial, supported by soft and enveloping tannins that provide an almost tactile texture, leading the tasting towards a long finish with persistent minerality.
Where it comes from
The grapes are grown on the slopes of Monte Calvario, in the heart of Collio, a highly renowned hilly area in the province of Gorizia. The vines benefit from excellent southern exposure and grow at an altitude between one hundred and forty and one hundred and eighty metres above sea level, ensuring perfect ripening of the bunches. The distinctive element is the ponca, also known as opoka, a marl-sandstone soil matrix rich in stones. This particular soil gives the wine its marked mineral character, offering a solid and elegant flavour profile that faithfully reflects the identity of the region.
How it is produced
Vinification involves a long maceration on the skins in truncated conical oak vats, lasting from sixty to ninety days. This crucial stage allows for the extraction of colour, complex structure, and tannic component. The wine then matures in oak barrels for twenty-three months, allowing the aromatic profile to fully integrate. The process is completed with a final six months of rest: the natural sediments are retained to perform an essential protective and preservative function, preserving the wine's vitality over time.

We have another half hectare at San Floriano, planted with chardonnay, which was part of my grandfather’s holding.
