Description

What type of wine it is

Pinot Grigio Damijan Podversic is a still white wine from the Collio appellation in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, with an aromatic and elegant profile. Its uniqueness lies in its structure, defined by a deep maceration on the skins that amplifies its character and texture. On the palate, it reveals an enveloping texture, supported by soft and delicate tannins that perfectly balance the substantial component. The sip closes with a pleasant and persistent fruity finish, a distinctive note clearly perceptible from the very first olfactory approach.

Where it comes from

This Pinot Grigio originates in the renowned area of Collio Goriziano, in Friuli-Venezia Giulia. The vineyards extend over east-facing slopes at an altitude between one hundred and ten and one hundred and forty metres above sea level. The heart of this territory is the soil, composed of the typical ponca or opoka. This peculiar alternation of marl and sandstone creates an ideal environment for developing depth and aromatic richness, elements that translate in the glass into remarkable complexity and a strong territorial identity.

How it is produced

The processing enhances the organoleptic qualities of the Pinot Grigio. Fermentation takes place in contact with the skins in truncated conical oak vats for thirty days, a crucial step to extract aromas and provide a solid structure. At the end of the maceration, maturation continues with a rest of two years in oak barrels, allowing the different components to integrate harmoniously. The process concludes with a significant bottle ageing lasting one year, fundamental for achieving balance and finesse.

On mount Calvario there were some old, abandoned vines and I started to buy up some small plots of land.

Today on these lands we have the most important vinyards, six hectares planted with ribolla gialla, malvasia, friulano, merlot e cabernet sauvignon.

We have another half hectare at San Floriano, planted with chardonnay, which was part of my grandfather’s holding. We have a further two hectares rented at Gradiscutta with chardonnay, malvasia e friulano. For the past twenty years we’ve had at Piedimonte another one and half hectares with friulano, chardonnay e malvasia.
