Description
What kind of wine it is
Damijan Podversic Malvasia is a macerated orange wine that rigorously expresses the character of Collio. This wine, with its bright golden yellow hue, is made exclusively from Malvasia grapes, vinified to enhance their aromatic integrity and structure. On the nose, it offers delicate fruity notes, intertwined with a fresh and elegant mineral vein. On the palate, it reveals complexity, characterised by a substantial texture and a vibrant acidity that ensures a dynamic sip. Its intensity and pronounced personality make it ideal for pairing with mature cheeses and fish-based dishes.
Where it comes from
The grapes are grown on the slopes of Monte Calvario, in the Gorizia area. The vineyards are situated at an altitude between 110 and 150 metres, with a southern exposure that ensures optimal ripening of the bunches. The soul of the wine lies in the typical marly and stony soil, locally known as Oponka. This geological matrix imparts a distinct minerality to the palate, ensuring a balance between freshness and body. The agricultural management adopts the spur-pruned Guyot system, maintaining low yields to ensure maximum concentration and a precise definition of the Malvasia.
How it is produced
Vinification involves a long fermentation on the skins in truncated conical oak vats, a process that lasts from sixty to ninety days to extract aromatic depth and structure. Subsequently, the wine matures in oak barrels for about three years, acquiring complexity and harmony. The process concludes with a six-month bottle ageing, retaining its natural sediments. This production choice protects the wine's natural evolution over time, enriching its softness and preserving the absolute expressive integrity of the Malvasia.
History and Curiosities
Produced in the Collio DOC, Damijan Podversic Malvasia 2021 expresses the soul of the Oponka, the typical marl soil of Monte Calvario.
