Description
What kind of wine it is
Corte Giara Merlot Corvina is a balanced red wine that blends the natural softness of Merlot with the vibrant character of Corvina. In the glass, it reveals an intense ruby red colour with purplish highlights, offering clear aromas of cherry and plum enhanced by delicate hints of spices and aromatic herbs. On the palate, it is full-bodied and enveloping, enlivened by lively tannins that precisely support its mature structure. The long, distinctly fruity finish makes it versatile for a wide range of food pairings.
Where it comes from
The grapes at the heart of this Venetian blend grow in the Fumane area, in the heart of Valpolicella, a region long associated with the Allegrini family. The vineyards are trained on trellises up to two hundred and fifty metres above sea level, benefiting from excellent south-east exposure. The vines sink their roots into a medium-textured soil that is predominantly calcareous, an ideal composition to ensure the wine's aromatic clarity and verve. The Corte Giara brand name pays homage to the historic rural courtyard, recalling the area's strong agricultural identity.
How it is produced
The cellar process begins with careful manual harvesting, followed by gentle crushing of the bunches. The must ferments in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature, with daily pump-overs to optimise extraction. To preserve the natural expression of the fruit, the wine matures for several months in steel containers and completes its development with a meticulous bottle ageing, resulting in a dry sip with great technical purity.
History and Curiosities
Born from the centuries-old experience of the Allegrini family in Fumane, Corte Giara has embodied a youthful and dynamic idea of conviviality since 1989. This refined IGT Veneto reinterprets tradition by combining the lively vigour of Corvina with the rounded softness of Merlot at 60%. The result is a glass with an enveloping body, rich in intense notes of cherry, plum and aromatic herbs. Aged in steel and subsequently in bottle, it expresses a surprising versatility, ideal when served chilled with Japanese cuisine or soft cheeses.
