Description
What kind of wine it is
Asti Spumante Metodo Classico De Miranda is a white sparkling wine that fully expresses the potential of the Moscato Bianco grape variety. It displays a straw yellow colour and a very fine and persistent perlage. The bouquet harmoniously combines notes of dried fruit and shortcrust pastry with fresh hints of sage and thyme. On the palate, it is intensely aromatic, revealing notes of honey, dates and lily of the valley intertwined with hints of toasted brioche and savoury biscuit. Produced using the Traditional Method, it balances pleasant sweetness with vibrant freshness. Excellent as an aperitif or with starters, it pairs perfectly with blue cheeses and dry pastries.
Where it comes from
This sparkling wine originates in the heart of Piedmont, on the hills of Canelli, in an area historically dedicated to viticulture. The Asti designation represents the ideal place where the Moscato Bianco grape develops its unmistakable identity. The wine is crafted by Contratto, a winery with a strong connection to the land, working according to a strict approach of organic and sustainable viticulture. The Piedmontese environment gives the grapes a pronounced varietal character, enhanced by the complexity acquired during maturation. The unique characteristics of the local soil give the wine an evolved structure and a noteworthy ageing potential, while maintaining a clean finish.
How it is produced
Vinification begins with destemming and gentle crushing, without pressing, to extract only the free-run must. The first fermentation in stainless steel at a controlled temperature is followed by nine months of maturation. The secondary fermentation takes place strictly using the Traditional Method. The long period on the lees, for almost forty-eight months, gives the aromatic profile deep and complex nuances. The process concludes with manual riddling, a meticulous practice that ensures extreme clarity and further enhances the finesse of the wine.
History and Curiosities
Since 1867, the Contratto winery has represented Piedmontese excellence, a legacy celebrated by the 2019 vintage of De Miranda. Originating from the prestigious hills of Canelli, this Asti DOCG showcases meticulous artisanal care through the rigorous traditional method. The long maturation of almost 48 months on the lees, combined with manual riddling under the guidance of oenologist Andrea Rivetti, bestows the wine with sublime evolutionary elegance. The result of organic and sustainable viticulture, this sparkling wine will be able to express its full potential even after ten years of ageing.

Around 1910 Contratto began to export their wines. Contratto had great success in foreign markets, and the winery became synonymous with prestige and quality in the world of sparkling wines, so much so that the winery became the official wine supplier for the Vatican, the Belgian Royal Family, and in 1913 the Royal Family of Savoy. In 1919 Contratto produced its first vintage Italian sparkling, an innovative choice on the part of the Piedmontese sparkling house that aimed to highlight a single vintage's characteristics.
The Contratto family remained at the company's helm until 1993, when the Bocchino family, who owned a distillery of the same name, took the reigns of Contratto. The Bocchino family set forth the work of restoring the Wine Cathedral, the internal courtyard, and the tasting room.
Giorgio Rivetti, a huge fan of Champagne, began collaborating with the Bocchino family and immediately realized the great potential of the historic sparkling house. Shortly after, in 2011, the Rivetti family decided to take an important step and purchased the winery. This new project immediately reflects the philosophy and passion that made La Spinetta famous. A fundamental decision was directly taken: acquiring several hectares of land, some under vine, close to the little town of Bossolaso. Situated in the highest part of the Langhe, the Bossolasco zone lends itself perfectly to the cultivation of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. These grapes are used in the production of the Alta Langa DOCG. This marks the official entry of Contratto in the Consortium of Alta Langa, and Contratto becomes the reference point for the entire denomination. Read more
