Description
What kind of wine it is
Karmis by Contini is a still white wine from Sardinia, created from a blend of Vernaccia di Oristano and Vermentino. Produced in the Isola dei Nuraghi area, it displays a bright straw yellow colour. The bouquet reveals intense notes of white peach and Mediterranean flowers. On the palate, it is smooth and full-bodied, balanced by excellent freshness and a vibrant mineral savouriness with long persistence.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from Cabras, on the Sinis peninsula. The vineyards benefit from a Mediterranean climate with hot, breezy summers, situated at altitudes reaching two hundred metres. The soils, partly sandy and slightly clayey and partly volcanic, enhance the aromatic profile of the grape varieties. This combination of land and wind shapes the unmistakable savoury and balanced character of this wine.
How it is produced
The vinification process begins with gentle pressing of the grapes. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature in stainless steel to preserve the integrity of the aromas. Ageing continues on the lees in stainless steel tanks or vitrified cement, with periodic bâtonnage to add depth to the structure. The final rest in the bottle produces a white wine ideal for pairing with raw seafood.
History and Curiosities
Originating from the Sinis peninsula, Karmis Cuvée celebrates the heritage of the oldest winery in Sardinia, founded in 1898. This white wine, whose name recalls an ancient local term for the vine, is born from the union of Vernaccia di Oristano and Vermentino grapes grown on volcanic and sandy soils. Careful vinification enhances a bouquet of white peach and Mediterranean flowers, offering the palate a vibrant savoury freshness that evokes the sea breeze and makes it the perfect accompaniment for raw seafood and vegetarian dishes.
