Description
What kind of wine it is
The Franciacorta Brut Race Ducati Corse by Contadi Castaldi is a sparkling wine of great dynamism produced according to the Traditional Method. It is born from a harmonious blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Blanc grapes, and expresses a vertical and refined aromatic profile. In the glass, it appears straw yellow in colour, enlivened by a fine and persistent perlage. On the nose, fresh aromas of white flowers, citron, pineapple and pear emerge, anticipating a crisp sip. The long and energetic finish makes this Franciacorta Brut ideal for accompanying starters and fish-based dishes.
Where it comes from
This sparkling wine comes to life in Franciacorta, in Lombardy, from a careful selection of grapes grown in different pedoclimatic units. The presence of calcareous soils profoundly characterises the terroir, giving the wine a subtle minerality and a vertical gustatory line. The harvest takes place between the end of August and the beginning of September, an essential agronomic choice to preserve the vibrant freshness of the grapes and the acidic balance.
How it is produced
Vinification begins with gentle pressing and static cold decantation of the must. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in steel, with partial malolactic fermentation. The base wines mature for seven months, resting partly in steel tanks and partly in small barrels. The prise de mousse strictly follows the Traditional Method, with ageing on the lees lasting from twenty to twenty-six months. This prolonged rest ensures a creamy texture on the palate, while a further three months' rest after disgorgement perfects its gustatory balance.
History and Curiosities
Born from the exclusive collaboration between Contadi Castaldi and Ducati Corse, this Franciacorta DOCG celebrates the adrenaline of speed and Italian excellence. The result of a careful selection of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Blanc grapes grown on Lombard limestone soils, it comes to life through the rigorous Traditional Method. After maturing for 20-26 months on the lees under the guidance of oenologist Gian Luca Uccelli, this sparkling wine develops a fine and persistent perlage, offering a fresh and dynamic sip, with an intoxicating finish that “accelerates” on the palate.

Satèn means silkiness, a sensation that transferred from touch to the palate and can be rendered with creaminess even though this doesn’t convey the freshness of Satèn Contadi Castaldi. How can we describe it? Maybe by taking a step back and staying with the expression "like silk". Anything that is able to evoke the full-bodied lightness, the depth of thought, the princely humour that is as delicate as it is politely fickle, a graceful smile or a gesture that sows questions.
So, we're almost there. If we squeeze into a single image the impression of freshness, softness, immediacy, charging it with the absolute yellow of gold, we cannot but define what is young, who or who feels young. Satèn evokes that malice still lacking in contrasts, a free richness, the ease of wanting with joy. Read more
