Description
What kind of wine is it
Schioppettino Colmello di Grotta is a still organic red wine from the Friuli Isonzo denomination, in Friuli-Venezia Giulia. To the eye, it reveals a pale ruby red colour, enhanced by pronounced violet reflections. The bouquet opens with intense notes of cherry and black cherry, enriched by hints of tobacco leaves and green pepper. On the palate, it offers a fresh and balanced sip, characterised by a broad and enveloping structure that fully enhances the typical qualities of Schioppettino.
Where does it come from
The Schioppettino grapes come from Farra d’Isonzo, in the province of Gorizia, an area of excellence for viticulture. The vineyards are located forty metres above sea level and are cultivated using the Guyot system. The influence of the alluvial soils, rich in gravel and clay, ensures ideal conditions to give the wine a marked freshness. In this context, the work in the vineyard aims to enhance the original varietal traits, maintaining absolute aromatic precision and preserving the natural elegance of the structure.
How is it produced
Production begins with a manual harvest carried out in the first ten days of October to protect the integrity of the bunches. In the winery, fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks with selected yeasts, accompanied by a maceration on the skins of about three weeks to optimally extract colour and aromas. The wine completes its journey with ageing in steel, a choice aimed at preserving the olfactory purity and clarity of the fruit, ultimately offering a harmonious and well-defined finish.
History and Curiosities
Colmello di Grotta enhances the typical native grape variety with this fascinating organic red from the Friuli Isonzo DOC. Grown on alluvial, gravelly and clay soils, the grapes from the 2022 harvest were hand-picked to preserve their integrity. The meticulous stainless steel fermentation lasting 18-20 days helps to capture the pronounced violet hues and the rich aromas of black cherry, tobacco leaves and green pepper. On the palate, it offers a pleasant balanced freshness, confirming itself as a broad and enveloping wine with every sip.
