Description

What kind of wine it is

Friuli Isonzo Friulano by Colmello di Grotta is an organic white wine that represents the most authentic expression of the grape variety in Friuli-Venezia Giulia. In the glass, it displays a straw yellow hue enhanced by delicate citrus reflections. The bouquet is broad and enveloping, characterised by distinct acacia flower notes. On the palate, it offers a dry, full and warm sip, finishing with a characteristic slightly bitter almond finish, a distinctive trait of the Friulano grape, vinified in steel.

Where it comes from

The grapes are grown in Farra d’Isonzo, in the heart of the Friuli Isonzo denomination. The vines, cultivated at eighty metres above sea level using the Guyot trellis system, have an average age of thirty years. The roots delve into alluvial soils, rich in gravel and clay. This specific geological composition ensures excellent natural drainage and gives the wine a significant structure, precisely defining the varietal profile of the grapes signed by Colmello di Grotta.

How it is produced

The production process begins in the last ten days of September with a rigorous manual harvest. Once in the cellar, the grapes undergo a skin maceration lasting from seven to twelve days, a crucial step to extract texture and aromatic intensity. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature, using selected yeasts. The choice to use only steel allows the fragrance of the fruit and the freshness of the wine to remain unaltered.

History and Curiosities

This fine organic white wine originates in Farra d’Isonzo, within the Friuli Isonzo DOC. The thirty-year-old vines thrive on alluvial and gravelly soils at an altitude of 80 metres, giving the wine excellent structure. Since the very first vintage in 1992, the Colmello di Grotta winery has enhanced its grapes through meticulous manual harvesting at the end of September. The careful skin maceration for 7-12 days and subsequent vinification in stainless steel alone preserve the intense aromatic clarity and elegance of this captivating 2021 vintage.
