Description
What kind of wine it is
Cocchi Alta Langa Extra Brut is an organic sparkling wine from Piedmont, produced using the Traditional Method, an authentic expression of Alta Langa. It is created from a meticulous blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes, crafted to enhance their individual characteristics. The bouquet reveals a refined profile, with floral notes of hawthorn and millefeuille intertwined with lively citrus hints. On the palate, it is crisp and dry, offering a distinct chalky savouriness that leaves the mouth pleasantly clean, finishing with elegant touches of Mediterranean herbs.
Where it comes from
The grapes are sourced from vineyards located in the Monforte d’Alba area, a region with a strong winemaking tradition. The vines grow on white soils with a marl-limestone base, which imparts a natural and pleasant chalky tension to the sip. The west-facing exposure and altitude above two hundred and fifty metres ensure an optimal microclimate, promoting defined aromas and an extremely linear drinkability. The organic management confirms the deep respect that the Cocchi brand has for the ecosystem and its connection to the land.
How it is produced
Vinification begins with manual harvesting, followed by separate fermentation of the varieties in steel vats, without the use of barrels. The must settles at a low temperature without clarifying agents, isolating only the finest fractions. The prise de mousse strictly follows the Traditional Method, with a slow maturation on the lees for forty-six months, enriching its structure. The Extra Brut dosage shapes a dry and dynamic tasting experience, combining vibrant freshness with delicate nuances of white pepper and marine hints of nori seaweed.
History and Curiosities
This prestigious organic Alta Langa DOCG celebrates the sparkling wine tradition that the Cocchi winery has cultivated in Piedmont since 1891. Born from the marl-limestone soils of Monforte d’Alba, this sparkling wine blends Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in a cuvée of rare elegance, awarded the 3 Bicchieri Gambero Rosso. The excellence of the 2019 vintage is achieved through a rigorous ageing of 46 months on the lees, the highest expression of the Metodo Classico.
