Description
What kind of wine it is
Ferruggini by Chiappini is an organic red wine that faithfully embodies the character of Bolgheri Rosso. This captivating blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah stands out for its ruby red colour and intense aromatic profile, led by notes of cherry, cranberry and currant, enhanced by hints of black tea, orange peel and Mediterranean herbs. On the palate, it offers a smooth and dynamic drinkability, supported by a medium body and a soft, elegant texture. Its linear structure and freshness on the palate make it an extremely enjoyable wine, capable of evolving well over time and ideal for accompanying the flavourful dishes of traditional Tuscan cuisine.
Where it comes from
The grapes are grown in the renowned Bolgheri area, along the Tuscan coast. The estate's vineyards take root in medium-textured soils, characterised by an alluvial matrix that combines sand, silt, clay and calcareous inclusions. The presence of mineral-rich gravelly conglomerates ensures excellent drainage, giving the wine a defined structure and particularly clear fruit. Chiappini has been cultivating these lands since the 1950s, respecting the vitality of the territory through strict organic management based on green manure, organic fertilisation and the use of copper and sulphur.
How it is produced
The harvest takes place in the first half of September, picking the bunches at the correct stage of ripeness. In the cellar, vinification begins with fermentation using indigenous yeasts in steel tanks, a choice aimed at preserving aromatic purity and varietal identity. The maturation period lasts twelve months, spent mostly in steel and the remainder in French oak barrels. This measured approach allows for a balanced and precise flavour profile, in which the vibrancy of ripe red fruit is expressed with great agility and clarity.
History and Curiosities
The Ferruggini embodies the spirit of a family connected to Bolgheri since the 1950s. The Chiappini estate, founded in 1978, cultivates fifteen hectares of vineyards following the principles of strict organic production since 2010, with the aim of preserving the authenticity of the Tuscan terroir. Under the guidance of oenologist Emiliano Falsini, the estate transforms grapes harvested in September into an elegant and dynamic red wine. The quality is attested by awards from Bibenda, Decanter and Gambero Rosso.

In the 50s, Bolgheri was very far from the combination of wine and quality which characterizes it today. Back then, vegetables gardens, fruit trees and olive trees shared the scenery with vineyards, united by a mainly domestic consumption. The Bolgheri area was a land of farmers, tourism was not to be witnessed yet, the work was tiring and yet the farmer culture was dominant, together with its natural principles and the sense of commonality which allowed the integration among the different communities which found themselves living here, attracted by the great availability of land to work.
Today the enterprise occupies 27 hectares of land, 15 of which are filled with vineyards which allow an average yearly production of approximately 80'000 bottles. The varieties which are currently grown are the ones that are typical of the area: cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, merlot, petit verdot, and a small amount of sangiovese and vermentino.
From the vintage of 2010 we have started the entirely organic production within the farm, the vineyards and the olive groves are therefore defended through copper and sulfur and the vineyards are worked by using green manure and organic fertilization, in the respect of the territory, of the environment and of the farmers. The desire to grow goes hand in hand with the quest for quality and for the respect of values, in the name of a unique terroir like the Bolgheri one. Read more
