Description

What type of wine it is

Alter Ego de Château Palmer is a still red wine from the Margaux appellation that embodies the elegance of Bordeaux. This blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot reveals a precise and balanced profile. On the nose, it expresses intense aromas of red and black fruits, combined with floral and spicy notes of violet, vanilla, and graphite. Vinified in conical vats and aged in oak barrels, it presents a juicy structure on the palate supported by lively acidity and fine, tight-grained tannins, which provide smooth contours and an extremely long, savoury finish.

Where it comes from

The grapes come from the Médoc, a region historically dedicated to great reds. Château Palmer's vineyards are rooted in the fine gravel alluvial soils of the Garonne and Dordogne, a matrix that defines the distinctive character of Margaux. This soil gives the wine a delicate structure and complex aromatic definition. The strict selection of fruit identifies the ideal plots based on phenolic maturity, density, and depth, ensuring the most faithful expression of the terroir.

How it is produced

Production involves rigorous plot-by-plot vinification inside conical vats, applying minimal intervention in the cellar to enhance the identity of the soil. The maturation process begins with twelve months of rest in French oak barrels, partly new, and continues for another year in large casks. This careful management of the wood integrates perfectly into the wine's profile, resulting in a balanced and silky palate with prolonged persistence, capable of evolving magnificently over time.

History and interesting facts

Created in 1998 as an authentic and independent expression of Château Palmer, this fine Margaux wine transcends the traditional concept of a second wine. As highlighted by director Thomas Duroux, this red boasts extraordinary ageing potential, rewarding over time those who wait for its evolution.
