Description

What kind of wine is it

Chateau Latour Martillac Pessac Leognan Grand Cru Classe Rouge is a still red wine that faithfully expresses the Bordeaux region. Recognised as a Grand Cru Classé de Graves, it stands out for its harmonious blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot grapes. In the glass, it displays a ruby red colour with bright violet highlights, hinting at a significant structure. On the palate, it is savoury and fruity, offering an enveloping, persistent and elegant flavour profile.

Where does it come from

The grapes are grown in Pessac-Léognan, France, where Chateau Latour-Martillac boasts a centuries-old history dating back to the 13th century. The estate cultivates its vines on a complex soil composition, characterised by a pebbly base enriched with clay and limestone. This unique geological matrix shapes the wine’s olfactory identity, supporting an aromatic bouquet in which clear scents of red fruits stand out, accompanied by warm spicy notes.

How is it produced

Vinification concludes with a slow maturation process involving ageing in oak barrels for a period ranging from eighteen to twenty months. This evolution softens the tannic texture and enriches the wine with structural complexity. To fully appreciate its aromatic nuances, it is recommended to decant for about an hour before serving, ideally between 16 and 18°C. Its profile makes it perfect for pairing with meat, pork roasts and mature cheeses.

History and Curiosities

With roots dating back to the 13th century, Château Latour-Martillac represents the true excellence of Bordeaux. This prestigious estate, classified since 1953 as a Grand Cru Classé de Graves, cultivates its vines on gravelly, clay and limestone soils that are particularly well-suited. Thanks to the invaluable advice of Michel Rolland, the 2019 vintage expresses an unparalleled charm, awarded 95 points by James Suckling. A liquid masterpiece of extraordinary longevity, capable of evolving magnificently in the bottle for over fifteen years.
