Description
What type of wine it is
Blason d’Issan, produced by Chateau d’Issan, is a still red wine from the Margaux appellation. This blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Malbec, aged in barrels, presents itself in the glass with an intense ruby red colour. On the nose, it offers clean aromas, characterised by notes of ripe plums and delicate hints of chocolate. On the palate, it is full-bodied, distinguished by a remarkable fruit density and a structured texture that accompanies the tasting towards a persistent and long finish.
Where it comes from
The wine originates in Cantenac, in the renowned Margaux territory, within the Bordeaux region. Its historical roots are linked to the prestige of the enclosed vineyard known as Le Clos d’Issan, whose origins date back to 1644. The estate is distinguished by deep attention to the natural environment; the viticultural landscape is in fact protected through a biodiversity reserve, enriched by the presence of watercourses. This balanced ecosystem allows the vines to reach optimal ripeness, accurately reflecting the authenticity of the terroir.
How it is produced
The harvest takes place in autumn, picking the grapes at the moment of their maximum aromatic expression. In the cellar, traditional fermentation takes place, accompanied by very gentle pump-overs to preserve the natural vibrancy of the fruit. This is followed by maceration for about three weeks, essential for a controlled extraction of phenolic compounds. Following malolactic fermentation, the wine is transferred for ageing in barrels, 35% of which are new. This careful production process gives the wine a full flavour profile, ensuring an ideal structural balance.
History and curiosities
The Blason d’Issan inherits the prestige of the historic walled vineyard “Le Clos d’Issan”, dating back to 1644 and a symbol of Margaux. This wine is rooted in the tradition of the 1855 Grand Cru Classé, enhanced by an early 2023 vintage in which September rains boosted the ripening of the Cabernet Sauvignon. The estate's excellence is also expressed through respect for nature, by protecting a rich biodiversity reserve and its waterways.
