Description
What kind of wine it is
Château de Camensac is a Grand Cru Classé that embodies the profound character of Bordeaux red wines. This Haut-Médoc is crafted from a harmonious blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, revealing a silky texture. In the glass, it displays a deep ruby colour with intense violet highlights. The bouquet is clean, marked by notes of cocoa beans, black pepper and delicate hints of rose. On the palate, the entry is precise, releasing aromas of blackberry and raspberry, supported by well-integrated mature, fine-grained tannins, finishing with a long, mineral and floral-tinged aftertaste.
Where it comes from
The vineyards are located in the commune of Saint-Laurent-Médoc, in the heart of Bordeaux. The estate covers around 75 hectares of gentle slopes, characterised by deep gravel soils resting on a clay subsoil rich in iron. This particular geology ensures optimal drainage and excellent heat retention. The proximity to the Gironde estuary and the climatic influence of the nearby Saint-Julien area impart great expressive clarity to the grapes, resulting in a wine with an elegant and well-defined structure.
How it is produced
Hand harvesting ensures a careful selection of the grapes, which are vinified in temperature-controlled steel vats to preserve their aromatic precision. Maturation lasts from twelve to eighteen months in partially new oak barrels, delicately integrating the wood notes. This structured wine is the ideal companion for richly flavoured dishes, pairing beautifully with braised beef, duck breast and soft cheeses.
History and Curiosities
The prestigious Château de Camensac, a renowned Grand Cru Classé of 1855, embodies the essence of Haut-Médoc. The 2018 vintage originates from the prized terroirs of Saint-Laurent-Médoc, where Cabernet Sauvignon, cultivated on outstanding gravelly soils, is blended with Merlot. Following a meticulous manual harvest, the wine refines its structure through a prolonged maturation in barriques lasting up to 18 months. Highly acclaimed by critics, this label expresses refined modern elegance, combining Bordeaux nobility with an enveloping and silky texture.
