Description

What kind of wine it is

Chateau Bordenave Sauternes is an organic sweet white wine that fully expresses the essence of the prestigious Bordeaux region. The result of a meticulous blend of Sémillon and Sauvignon, it appears a golden yellow colour adorned with silvery highlights. The bouquet is elegant and refined, dominated by notes of exotic fruit, candied apricot, orange zest and delicate hints of saffron. On the palate, the creamy texture is harmoniously balanced by a fresh acidity, which supports the natural sweetness of the sip, leading to a long, honeyed finish. Ideal with blue cheeses, foie gras or dry pastries.

Where it comes from

This wine originates from the renowned Sauternes area, located within the Bordeaux region. The local microclimate is characterised by dense morning mists, an essential condition for the development of Botrytis cinerea, known as noble rot. This natural phenomenon allows for an extraordinary concentration of sugars and aromas within the grapes. The vineyards are managed according to the principles of organic farming and rest on sandy and gravelly soils, which are responsible for the wine's distinctive mineral character. The Chateau Bordenave estate cultivates these lands, enhancing the identity of the subzone, thanks to family expertise dating back to 1676.

How it is produced

The production of Chateau Bordenave Sauternes requires a selective manual harvest carried out in several passes, picking only the bunches affected by noble rot at the right stage of ripeness. After fermentation, the wine matures in oak barrels for six months. This ageing period enriches the bouquet and imparts a silky texture, preserving the perfect balance between smoothness and lively acidity. The result is a structured and persistent wine, capable of integrating fruity aromas with elegant notes of acacia honey and toasted hazelnut.

History and Curiosities

Since 1676, the Bordenave family has passed down the ancient Bordeaux tradition, creating a prestigious organic Sauternes that combines excellence and nature. The 2019 vintage is made from Sémillon and Sauvignon grapes, hand-picked to select berries enriched by the precious noble rot. Six months of ageing in oak enhances its elegant aromas of candied apricot and saffron. On the palate, the fresh minerality beautifully balances an unforgettable creamy sip, ideal for bringing out the best in intense blue cheeses and refined fruit desserts.

The Bordenave estate, at the heart of the Jurançon appellation in Monein, is one of the oldest properties of the area, run from father to son or daughter since 1676. Thanks to important investments in the wine storehouses and the reorganization of the vineyard, the first vintage of wine was presented in 1993.

Bordenave means all the attachment of a family to exalt the roots of a soil. Here our bonds are old, sincere and generous, and we have always remained humble in front of the force of the ground and the value of each moment.
