Description

What kind of wine it is

Barolo Riserva Bricco Boschis Vigna San Giuseppe Cavallotto is an organic still red wine of extraordinary elegance. Made exclusively from Nebbiolo grapes, it offers an intense aromatic profile ranging from fruity notes to refined floral and spicy nuances. On the palate, it reveals a great structure and exceptional ageing potential, displaying a deep garnet red colour.

Where it comes from

This Barolo originates in Castiglione Falletto, at the heart of the renowned Piedmont wine region. The grapes are sourced entirely from the famous Bricco Boschis hill, within the historic Vigna San Giuseppe. The vineyard is managed directly by the Cavallotto family. The origin from this specific single vineyard allows for a pure expression of the grape variety, ensuring a flawless balance between gustatory elegance and vigour.

How it is produced

After destemming, fermentation takes place in horizontal tanks at controlled temperature, using only indigenous yeasts. The extraction process involves a traditional semi-submerged cap maceration lasting twenty-two to thirty-eight days. After malolactic fermentation in concrete, the wine matures for four or five years in Slavonian oak barrels, completing its refinement with a further year in bottle to perfectly harmonise the texture.

History and Curiosities

Since 1928, the Cavallotto family has been cultivating their own vineyards in Castiglione Falletto, producing an exceptionally elegant Barolo DOCG Riserva. This organic Nebbiolo originates from the Vigna San Giuseppe through traditional vinification with indigenous yeasts. The lengthy ageing in Slavonian oak, lasting four or five years, followed by further maturation in the bottle, reveals its unique complexity, characterised by fruity, floral and spicy notes. A wine of great structure and exceptional ageing potential.

At the gates of Castiglione Falletto, in the heart of the Barolo Zone, on the slopes of the Bricco Boschis, one finds the Cavallotto Winery, which lies on 25 hectares of land. Since 1928, the Cavallotto family has owned the estate Tenuta Bricco Boschis. In 1946, they were the first cultivators in Castiglione Falletto to vinify all of their estate’s fruit. In 1948 they released the first bottling of their own BAROLO wine, with the label and registered trademark of Cavallotto.

Today the children of Olivio – Laura, Giuseppe and Alfio, the 4th generation working the family farm – continue to exclusively vinify the grapes produced in their estate vineyards into DOC and DOCG wines: Barolo, Dolcetto d’Alba, Barbera d’Alba, Langhe Nebbiolo, Langhe Freisa, Langhe "Grign" made from Grignolino grapes, Langhe Chardonnay and "Pinner" made from Pinot Nero grapes.
