Description
What kind of wine it is
Castello di Nipozzano Chianti Rufina Montesodi Riserva expresses the authentic character of Sangiovese. True to the prestigious Chianti Rufina Riserva denomination, it presents a brilliant ruby colour enriched with violet highlights. On the nose, it reveals a complex bouquet of cherry blossom, violet, blackberry and blackcurrant, accompanied by notes of pepper and fresh balsamic accents. On the palate, the enveloping entry evolves into a dense structure, supported by silky, mature tannins. The acidity perfectly balances the tasting experience, leading to a long and juicy finish, rich in spicy nuances. It is the ideal companion for robust meats and game.
Where it comes from
This wine is produced at the Frescobaldi estate, in the Nipozzano area. The grapes come from the renowned Montesodi vineyard, known for its extremely stony soil. This particular soil composition gives the Sangiovese a distinct territorial character, ensuring aromatic precision and great gustatory drive. Considered a historic Cru of Chianti Rufina, the plot enjoys optimal soil and climate conditions to enhance the fruit. The result is a wine with a solid structure, boasting an extraordinary ageing potential that can easily exceed a decade.
How it is produced
Production begins with a careful manual harvest and a rigorous selection of the grapes, aimed at ensuring perfect polyphenolic ripeness. Fermentation at a controlled temperature lasts for about ten days, followed by a carefully calibrated maceration on the skins, completed within a month. After racking, malolactic fermentation stabilises the organoleptic balance and refines the tannic texture. Eighteen months of ageing in Austrian and French oak barrels allows the wine to best integrate the spicy notes and achieve a profound expressive harmony.

Castello Nipozzano is, in fact, the most famous and historic property of the Frescobaldi family, also thanks to the surrounding territory, as the name itself recounts: according to popular tradition, Nipozzano means in fact "without a well', indicating that the area was poor in water, an ideal circumstance for growing vines.
The first 'reviews' on the quality of Nipozzano wine date back to the Renaissance, when even the great artists such as Donatello and Michelozzo Michelozzi used to buy this wine. Castello Nipozzano, in fact, means Tuscan wine par excellence, Chianti Classico in particular, thanks to a regional winemaking tradition followed with constancy and commitment, without ever forgetting the desire to innovation.
The true history of Tuscany that has excelled the art of wine-making for thousands of years. A testimony of this is the fact that Marquises Frescobaldi already in 1855 invested 1,000 silver florins to begin cultivating varieties then unknown in Tuscany, such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot: after more than a century, the care of these magnificent vines enabled the production of the estate's great wine, Mormoreto.
