Description
What kind of wine it is
Castello di Ama San Lorenzo is a Tuscan red wine that represents the pinnacle of the estate's production within the Chianti Classico context. This blend of Sangiovese, Merlot and Malvasia Nera displays a deep ruby red colour with violet highlights. On the nose, it reveals a complex profile, where intense aromas of wild berries, plum and cherry intertwine with spicy notes and hints of leather. On the palate, the structure is harmonious and enveloping, supported by velvety tannins and a vibrant freshness that leads to a persistent and elegant finish.
Where it comes from
This wine originates from the renowned estate vineyards located in Gaiole in Chianti, at the historic heart of the denomination. The vines are cultivated at altitudes between 460 and 525 metres, benefiting from exposures that ensure optimal sunlight. The clay-limestone soils, rich in stones, promote excellent water drainage. Significant temperature variations between day and night allow the grapes to reach perfect ripeness, giving the wine balance and a clear aromatic definition.
How it is produced
Manual harvesting ensures only the best bunches are selected, vinified separately according to variety. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures, using only indigenous yeasts. During maceration, manual pump-overs are carried out to extract colour and structural components. Malolactic fermentation is carried out in barrels. After blending, the wine matures in fine-grained oak barrels, a fundamental step that refines its character and guarantees extraordinary ageing potential.
