Description
What kind of wine it is
Castello di Ama San Lorenzo Chianti Classico Gran Selezione is a red wine with a structured and harmonious profile. Born from a careful blend of Sangiovese, Merlot and Malvasia Nera, this glass reveals a fascinating aromatic complexity. On the nose, it offers intense aromas of wild berries, plum and jam, enriched by spicy hints of cinnamon and cloves, which then evolve into tertiary notes of tobacco and leather. The palate is distinguished by its velvety tannins that balance a juicy and rounded sip, finishing with a persistent, compact and deep finish.
Where it comes from
This wine takes its name from the San Lorenzo valley, located in Gaiole in Chianti, on whose slopes the vineyards of the Castello di Ama estate are situated. The soils, lying between four hundred and sixty and five hundred and twenty-five metres above sea level, are characterised by clay-limestone soils rich in stones, ideal for excellent water drainage. The perfect east and south-east exposure ensures optimal sunlight, while the strong temperature variations between day and night encourage regular ripening of the grapes and proper aromatic concentration.
How it is produced
The care in producing Castello di Ama San Lorenzo Chianti Classico Gran Selezione begins with a rigorous manual harvest, carried out to preserve the integrity of the bunches. The different varieties are vinified separately, starting spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. After a prolonged maceration with manual pumping over, the wine is transferred to fine-grained oak barrels, where it completes malolactic fermentation before the final blend and a subsequent rest of about ten months.
History and Curiosities
San Lorenzo pays tribute to the enchanting valley that surrounds the vineyards of Castello di Ama, nestled between two eighteenth-century villas. The ancient church of the same name located in Gaiole in Chianti has become the emblem of the estate, founded in 1976. Expertly overseen by Marco Pallanti, this prestigious Chianti Classico Gran Selezione embodies the very best of Tuscany. The 2016 vintage received widespread acclaim and a score of 95/100 from Robert Parker, offering the palate impeccable spicy harmony and velvety tannins that enhance every glass.
