Description
What type of wine it is
Castello di Ama's Chianti Classico Ama is a Tuscan red wine that faithfully embodies its famous territorial denomination. Obtained from a harmonious blend of Sangiovese and Merlot, it presents an olfactory profile dominated by clear hints of cherry and fresh raspberry. On the palate, it is dry, enveloping and structured, supported by firm tannins that guarantee remarkable persistence. This wine comes to life thanks to meticulous vinification in steel, followed by a balanced ageing in oak barrels, preserving the freshness and authenticity of the original fruit.
Where it comes from
The grapes destined for this production come from the municipality of Gaiole in Chianti, a historic area with a great viticultural vocation in the province of Siena. The vineyards extend at an altitude of between 460 and 525 metres above sea level, benefiting from optimal exposure for the consistent ripening of the bunches. The specific nature of the clay-limestone soils provides the vine with the ideal substrate to convey structure and finesse to the harvest. The entire agronomic management follows the rigorous principles of organic and sustainable farming, deeply respecting the characteristics of the territory.
How it is produced
The production process begins with the separate vinification of the grapes in temperature-controlled steel tanks, using exclusively indigenous yeasts. A prolonged maceration on the skins for twenty-five days, supported by delicate manual pump-overs, encourages maximum aromatic extraction. After completing malolactic fermentation in steel, the blend is assembled for maturation. The final ageing takes place in fine-grained oak barrels that are not new, a technical decision that shapes the tannic texture while keeping the varietal purity intact.
History and Curiosities
Born in the heart of Gaiole in Chianti from the historic Castello di Ama winery, this majestic Chianti Classico DOCG expresses the purest soul of its land. Under the guidance of renowned oenologist Marco Pallanti, an organic and sustainable production takes shape, rooted in prized clay-limestone soils situated at an altitude of over four hundred and sixty metres. The formidable quality of this oenological masterpiece has been honoured by international critics with a prestigious ninety-five points from James Suckling, bringing the legendary Black Rooster emblem to the world.
