Description
What kind of wine it is
Franciacorta Cuvée 1564 Brut Nature from Castello Bonomi is a refined sparkling wine that harmoniously blends Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and the ancient Erbamat variety. Produced strictly according to the Traditional Method, this zero dosage wine offers a clear aromatic profile, characterised by delicate floral sensations and intense citrus and mineral notes, enhanced by subtle hints of toasted rye bread. The absence of added sugars highlights a precise and measured structure. On the palate, it reveals marked acidity and deep balance, delivering a dry and clean finish, ideal paired with raw fish, shellfish and sushi.
Where it comes from
This sparkling wine originates in Lombardy, on the slopes of Monte Orfano, in the heart of Franciacorta. The terraced vineyards benefit from perfect western exposure and are cultivated using the Guyot system, with strictly controlled yields per hectare. The Erbamat, a precious variety for this blend, is grown in the highest part of the Castello Bonomi estate. The wine's name refers to the year of the first historical mention of this grape, emphasising the deep connection with the land and the ancient origins of local viticulture.
How it is produced
The grapes are hand-picked at different times: Chardonnay is harvested first, followed by Pinot Noir and Erbamat. After gentle pressing, the separate vinification of the parcels takes place in stainless steel at controlled temperature, excluding malolactic fermentation. The free-run must of the Chardonnay and part of the Erbamat mature for seven months in barrels, while the Pinot Noir, vinified as a white, is aged in steel. Once the blend is created, the wine undergoes secondary fermentation in the bottle following the principles of the Traditional Method. The meticulous ageing on the lees for over forty months gives great complexity to the palate, which concludes with disgorgement without any dosage.
History and Curiosities
The Franciacorta Cuvée 1564 from Castello Bonomi celebrates Erbamat, an ancient and rare grape variety first mentioned in 1564. On the slopes of Monte Orfano, the grapes are hand-picked at different times and vinified separately to enhance their essence. Partial ageing in barriques is harmoniously combined with Pinot Noir matured in stainless steel. A meticulous rest on the lees for over 40 months in the historic underground cellars shapes the depth of this Brut Nature, offering an elegant and balanced sip that pays tribute to the value of time.

Here the first wine was born, in the 13th century, four hundred years before that in Champagne. A land of abbeys and priories, this moraine area bounded by Monte Orfano, Monte Alto and the hills of Lake Iseo, knows had its first major development in wine production in the second half of 800, when the historian Gabriele Rosa defined it as a land of "excellent black and white wines". Castello Bonomi lies on the slopes of Monte Orfano, a jewel in a marvelous casket, the only Chateau of Franciacorta. The Castello Bonomi estate takes its name from the original Art Nouveau building designed by architect Antonio Tagliaferri at the end of 800.
The rennovation of the historic cellars combined with the creation of new underground spaces has provided the Castello Bonomi estate with cellars that total an area of more than 1500 square meters.
The annual production of the company is about 150 thousand bottles: 100 thousand of Franciacorta CruPerdu, Satèn, Rosé, Millesimato, Cuvée Lucrezia and Lucrezia Etichetta Nera, Cuvée del Laureato; the rest divided between the Curtefranca: Solicano, Conte Foscari and Cordelio. Read more
