Description

What kind of wine it is

Banfi Poggio alle Mura Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is a prestigious Tuscan red wine made from Sangiovese grapes. This Brunello di Montalcino Riserva stands out for its structured profile and great expressive power. On the palate, it reveals excellent balance, supported by mature tannins that provide a velvety sip and a pleasantly harmonious finish.

Where it comes from

This red originates in the Montalcino area, from hillside vineyards surrounding the Castello di Poggio alle Mura. Banfi's vines grow at an ideal altitude to promote optimal ripening of the grapes. The marine and Pliocene soils, characterised by a sandy matrix and abundant stones, deeply influence the wine's character, imparting remarkable complexity and rigorous aromatic precision.

How it is produced

After harvesting, the grapes undergo maceration and temperature-controlled fermentation in combined steel and Horizon wood vats. The long maturation period takes place in French oak barrels, allowing the wine to develop a deep red colour with elegant garnet highlights. Before release, it undergoes further ageing in the bottle. The bouquet expresses rich notes of plum jam and blackcurrant, enriched by hints of coffee, cocoa and a subtle balsamic touch.

History and Curiosities

Founded in 1978, Banfi celebrates its passion for wine with this exclusive Riserva, born from the vineyards that surround Castello di Poggio alle Mura, in the Siena region. The historic fortress dominates the elegant label, a proud guardian of a glorious company tradition. Overseen by oenologist Matteo Bagnoli, the excellent 2018 vintage boasts prestigious international awards, such as 95 points from James Suckling and 4 Viti AIS, bestowing timeless prestige on every glass.

Founded in 1978 by the vision of Italian-American brothers John and Harry Mariani, Banfi represents a marriage of winemaking passion and technological innovation. Through collaboration with Ezio Rivella, one of Italy's most eminent winemakers, the land purchased in Montalcino was transformed into a crucible of quality and potential. The acquisition of the historic Piedmontese winery Bruzzone subsequently further enriched the portfolio, integrating the sparkling wine tradition of Piedmont into the Banfi world.

Always pioneers, we value research and people, respecting the territories in which we work. For a better wine world. We see a global and connected world, where differences are wealth. The products of our land, to be defended and enhanced, are the best expression of human labor and ingenuity.
