Description
What kind of wine it is
Castellare di Castellina Il Poggiale Chianti Classico Riserva is a red wine that embodies the authentic character of Tuscany. This blend of Sangiovese, Canaiolo and Ciliegiolo combines a solid structure with a fresh profile, standing out for its rounded and well-integrated tannins. On the palate, it offers a long and silky finish, characterised by a clear aromatic profile with floral hints of violet, fruity notes of cherry and precise mineral nuances. The tasting experience is balanced between intensity and formal rigour.
Where it comes from
The grapes for this label are grown in Castellina in Chianti, in the heart of Chianti Classico. The bunches come exclusively from the single vineyard Il Poggiale, located between three hundred and fifty and four hundred metres above sea level with a south-west exposure. The clay-limestone and silty soils, combined with low yields, ensure a concentrated and balanced expression, supported by lively freshness. The estate operates with an agricultural approach aimed at protecting the land, excluding the use of pesticides and herbicides to preserve the ecosystem.
How it is produced
The process involves a ten-day maceration on the skins at a controlled temperature and a two-week alcoholic fermentation in steel. Malolactic fermentation is completed before the wine is transferred to wood. The wine then matures in French oak barrels for a period of twelve to eighteen months, enriching its aromatic spectrum. Finally, a prolonged glass ageing of twelve months allows for the perfect integration of the tannins and impeccable flavour persistence before release.
History and Curiosities
Founded in 1977, Castellare di Castellina celebrates Tuscan excellence by protecting the land without the use of pesticides or herbicides. From this philosophy comes Il Poggiale, a majestic Chianti Classico cru produced from a single vineyard facing south-west. The nearly thirty-year-old vines yield grapes of exceptional concentration thanks to low yields. Under the masterful care of Alessandro Cellai, the Riserva matures in French oak barriques and subsequently in the bottle, enhancing the aristocratic elegance, profound complexity, and immense expressive power of Sangiovese.
