Description
What kind of wine it is
Castelgiocondo Brunello di Montalcino by Frescobaldi is a still red wine that expresses the authenticity of Sangiovese. This Brunello di Montalcino stands out for its full-bodied style, supported by a dense tannic structure and a pleasant mineral sensation. The aromatic profile opens with fruity notes of raspberry and blackcurrant, enriched by a floral hint of violet. With oxygenation, elegant nuances of leather and spices emerge, culminating in a long, balsamic finish, ideal for accompanying roasts, game and mature cheeses.
Where it comes from
This red is born in the heart of Tuscany, in the Montalcino area, a region historically dedicated to viticulture. Frescobaldi's vineyards are located at three hundred metres altitude with an optimal south-west exposure, ensuring perfect ripening of the grapes. The soils, characterised by galestro and clay, offer excellent natural drainage, giving the wine remarkable concentration and precise aromatic definition. The ancient medieval hamlet of the estate embodies the exclusive setting in which this extraordinary Tuscan terroir is expressed.
How it is produced
The production process begins with manual harvesting and careful selection of the bunches. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel containers at a controlled temperature, with frequent pumping over and a long maceration on the skins to encourage the extraction of colour and tannins. After malolactic fermentation, the wine matures for two years in wood, divided between small French oak barrels and Slavonian oak casks. A meticulous cellar ageing, which concludes with an adequate rest in glass, enriches the organoleptic profile, developing the spicy complexity typical of this wine.
History and Curiosities

The village of Castelgiocondo dominates from above the historic Frescobaldi estate in Montalcino, an ancient stronghold built in 1100 to defend the road from the sea to Siena. The property is one of the first four from which the production of Brunello di Montalcino began in 1800.
The historical importance of the estate is testified by the knight figure shown on Castelgiocondo wine labels, taken from a famous fresco by the Sienese painter Simone Martini. The artist painted Guidoriccio da Fogliano, commander of Siena's troops, who led the attack on the castle of Montemassi. A historical coincidence that saw the Frescobaldi family begin their centuries-long adventure in the world of wine at the same time as the knight's exploits. Read more
