Description
Wine style
Casanova di Neri's Rosso di Montalcino is a still red wine with a controlled designation of origin that clearly expresses the character of Sangiovese grown in Tuscan territory. It presents in the glass with a clear ruby colour, enhanced by garnet nuances. On the nose, it develops a well-defined floral profile, where scents of geranium and wild roses blend with hints of red plum and green tobacco leaves. On the palate, it offers a fruity structure balanced by a vibrant acidity and polished tannins, closing with a silky finish characterised by pleasant almond notes, following fermentation in steel and ageing in oak barrels.
Origin
The grapes are grown in Tuscany, in Montalcino, with particular focus on the Le Chetine vineyard. This environment benefits from an ideal microclimate for the optimal ripening of the bunches. The deep link with Rosso di Montalcino defines a distinct territorial fingerprint, clearly enhancing the specificities of the soil. The soil's typical minerality intertwines with a clear aromatic profile, maintaining a consistent and faithful expression of the landscape of origin.
Production process
The production process begins in October with a selective manual harvest and a rigorous sorting of the bunches, also carried out via an optical sorter. In the cellar, gravity-fed handling protects the integrity of the must, starting a spontaneous fermentation conducted exclusively by indigenous yeasts. Maceration takes place in truncated conical steel vats at a controlled temperature for eighteen days, with frequent punch-downs. After malolactic fermentation, the wine matures in oak barrels for a period between fifteen and seventeen months, reaching a harmonious balance.
History and interesting facts
Considered an authentic “young Brunello”, Casanova di Neri’s Rosso di Montalcino DOC fully expresses the region's vocation. The grapes from the Le Chetine vineyard benefit from the same meticulous care dedicated to the great crus, starting with the rigorous massal selection of Sangiovese. The authenticity of the terroir is preserved by a delicate gravity-flow vinification and spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts. The elegance of this red, enhanced by a harmonious oak ageing of 15-17 months, is confirmed by prestigious scores from Robert Parker and Vinous.
