Description

What kind of wine it is

Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova by Casanova di Neri is a red wine that embodies the elegance of Brunello di Montalcino. Made from Sangiovese grapes selected from the Cerretalto vineyard, it displays an intense ruby red colour with garnet highlights. On the nose, it offers deep Mediterranean aromas, fruity and spicy notes. The palate is profound and savoury, supported by a fine tannic structure suitable for very long ageing. It pairs beautifully with braised meats and game, mature cheeses, and pork-based dishes.

Where it comes from

This Tuscan red is born in a privileged area south of Montalcino. The area's Mediterranean climate shapes the wine's identity, imparting finesse and unmistakable aromas. The richness of the microclimate is reflected in spontaneous botanical elements such as mastic and thyme that surround the vineyards. The agronomic approach combines rigorous research on the land with targeted study of the vines, enhancing the potential of Sangiovese. Such technical rigour faithfully expresses the authentic essence of the Montalcino terroir.

How it is produced

Production begins with a meticulous harvest between late September and early October. In the cellar, fermentation and maceration on the skins lasts for twenty-three days, extracting colour and complexity. The wine then matures in small oak barrels for thirty months, an essential stage for consolidating its structure. This is followed by a further bottle ageing of eighteen months. This period ensures the perfect integration of the aromatic components, resulting in a flavourful and highly enjoyable sip.

History and Curiosities

Born from the union of passion and research, Tenuta Nuova is a renowned Brunello di Montalcino DOCG by Casanova di Neri. It originates from a careful clonal selection of Sangiovese from the Cerretalto vineyard, capturing its vibrant Mediterranean soul. The patient maturation in oak for thirty months, combined with a long period of rest in the bottle, shapes a tannic structure of extraordinary finesse. Offered in the prestigious Magnum format for the 2021 vintage, this multi-award-winning masterpiece promises a very long evolution and a tasting experience of absolute enjoyment.

Casanova di Neri was founded in 1971 by Giovanni Neri to embark on a great adventure. Passionate about wine, Neri had long dreamed of making a great Italian red, and although the long-established wine zone of Chianti Classico was just on his doorstep, it was remote Montalcino and its austere Sangiovese wines that fascinated him. In May 1971, he bought Podere Casanova, changed its name to Casanova di Neri, and in consultation with some of Tuscany’s leading winemakers, immediately began work to restore the estate’s existing Sangiovese vines and plant new ones. In 1991 Giovanni Neri dies. His son Giacomo takes over the running of the winery.

In 2017 Casanova di Neri expands into hospitality with the inauguration of the Relais, a charming ten-room restored farmhouse amidst the vineyards, just steps from the winery. In the same year, Gianlorenzo Neri enters the family business alongside his father Giacomo and brother Giovanni.
