Description

What kind of wine it is

Casanova di Neri Brunello Montalcino Tenuta Nuova is a still red wine that rigorously expresses the character of Sangiovese. Belonging to the renowned Brunello di Montalcino area, it presents in the glass with a deep ruby red colour and garnet highlights. The bouquet blends fruity and spicy notes with typical hints of Mediterranean scrub. On the palate, it reveals a solid structure, supported by a dense tannic texture that gives the sip a defined savouriness. Its composition makes it suitable for long ageing.

Where it comes from

This red originates from a south-facing slope of Montalcino. The geographical position plays a key role in developing its Mediterranean notes, giving the glass finesse and substance. Casanova di Neri's philosophy is based on enhancing a massal selection of Sangiovese, carefully chosen from the Cerretalto vineyard. This agronomic choice, combined with the Sienese terroir, allows for a sensory profile with a distinct territorial imprint, where aromatic intensity and gustatory balance stand out.

How it is produced

The Sangiovese is harvested between the end of September and the beginning of October. The must undergoes fermentation with maceration on the skins for twenty-three days, a crucial phase for extracting colour and tannins. The wine then matures for thirty months in small oak barrels, completing the process with eighteen months of bottle ageing. Served between sixteen and eighteen degrees, preferably after an hour of decanting, it is the ideal pairing for braised meats, game dishes and mature cheeses.

History and Curiosities

Born in 1993, Tenuta Nuova by Casanova di Neri combines passion and scientific rigour to create a truly distinctive Brunello. Produced from a Sangiovese clone selected from the Cerretalto vineyard, this prestigious red captures the essence of the terroirs south of Montalcino, offering the glass captivating Mediterranean aromas, rare finesse and a solid tannic structure. Expertly managed by the Neri family, who founded the winery in 1971, the 2021 vintage boasts undisputed excellence, consecrated by 98 points from James Suckling and 96 from Vinous.

Casanova di Neri was founded in 1971 by Giovanni Neri to embark on a great adventure. Passionate about wine, Neri had long dreamed of making a great Italian red, and although the long-established wine zone of Chianti Classico was just on his doorstep, it was remote Montalcino and its austere Sangiovese wines that fascinated him. In May 1971, he bought Podere Casanova, changed its name to Casanova di Neri, and in consultation with some of Tuscany’s leading winemakers, immediately began work to restore the estate’s existing Sangiovese vines and plant new ones. In 1991 Giovanni Neri dies. His son Giacomo takes over the running of the winery.

In 2017 Casanova di Neri expands into hospitality with the inauguration of the Relais, a charming ten-room restored farmhouse amidst the vineyards, just steps from the winery. In the same year, Gianlorenzo Neri enters the family business alongside his father Giacomo and brother Giovanni.
