Description

What kind of wine it is

Casanova della Spinetta Toscana Rosso Colorino is a still red wine produced by La Spinetta. It is made from the pure vinification of Colorino, an indigenous grape variety from Tuscany. On the nose, it offers clear aromas of wild berries, sweet spices, fresh flowers and a slight earthy undertone. On the palate, it reveals a full structure, balanced by soft tannins and excellent freshness, finishing with a long, dry and spicy aftertaste.

Where it comes from

The grapes come from vineyards located in the Pisa area, between Terricciola and Casciana Terme. The vines benefit from a southern exposure at 250 metres above sea level, a condition that ensures optimal ripening. The limestone soils with marine sediments impart a mineral streak that gives vibrancy to the sip and balances its structure. The agricultural approach is based on organic and sustainable cultivation, carried out with full respect for the local ecosystem.

How it is produced

After the mid-September harvest, alcoholic fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled rotofermenters for about 10-11 days. This is followed by malolactic fermentation and 24 months of ageing in second-passage French oak barrels, ideal for softening the tannic texture without overpowering it. The wine then rests in steel tanks for 10 months, completing its journey with a further 6 months of bottle ageing. To preserve its aromatic integrity, the wine undergoes no filtration or clarification.

History and Curiosities

Born from the passion of the Rivetti family, this wine celebrates a native Tuscan grape variety, historically used in blends and here vinified as a single varietal. The 2021 vintage reflects the authenticity of the Pisan lands through a sustainable approach that involves zero filtration, thus preserving every original aromatic nuance. The slow ageing for 24 months in French oak softens the tannins, resulting in an intense red with notes of wild berries and sweet spices: the ideal companion to enhance flavourful roasts and boards of mature cheeses.

The Rivetti family, renowned for their historic Piedmontese winery La Spinetta, arrived in Tuscany in the early 2000s bringing with them a bold and forward‑thinking vision. Among these rolling hills, they chose to give voice to the grape varieties that truly express the soul of the territory: Sangiovese, Colorino, and Prugnolo Gentile, leaving the more celebrated international varieties in the background. Every decision stems from a deep respect for nature: organic farming, extremely low yields, meticulous attention to grape quality, and slow aging in large oak casks. The result is a collection of wines that speak with elegance and authenticity, combining complexity with remarkable drinkability — a hallmark of Tuscany’s greatest expressions. Read more

The intensity of this Colorino enhances the authentic flavours of tradition. It is ideal paired with game and mixed roasts, and goes perfectly with tasty tagliatelle with wild boar ragù. Its soft tannins harmoniously balance platters of cured meats, such as finocchiona and capocollo, accompanied by delicious medium-aged cheeses.
